Yes, those Gay Frères bracelets were amazing.

Probably too dressy for a sports watch but they could have definitely done something more interesting than picking up an old IWC/jlc design (admittedly pretty well finished). Looking at the Lang and Heyne Instagram, based on pictures I do find their bracelet design to be way more interesting.

Thoughts on the new Lang and Heyne release today?

Movement looks to be UWD: ...

These look awesome and only a doofus would claim they are derivative, so that's a big plus.

Second thought: I guess there was a German king named Hektor? Huh.

Same one Shapiro uses as well as SINN

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : October 3rd, 2021-17:03

Sinn?! Wow, that's a very nice movement for them.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 3rd, 2021-18:53
Good info, thanks.

I believe it can only be found in one Sinn watch

 By: mhz vph : October 4th, 2021-15:01
Their 6200 'Meisterbund' www.sinn.de

A movement one could honestly say is full of cocks!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 3rd, 2021-17:12
It's a nice movement, used by Joshua Shapiro and, probably others. Someone else in the thread pointed to the dial being reminiscent of a Longines open heart model from a decade back, but the watch looks like an L&H to me.

Derivative

The irony of Odysseus Nautilus = Hektor is too much for my frail constitution. After the excellent implementation of the Georg, L

sometimes i like it sometimes i don't

 By: Dchang81 : October 3rd, 2021-15:40
i imagine looks better in the flesh. not sure about the left ear calling back to the nautilus. was funny that it was on lang's website before today. edit i guess im a doofus

I think I'm a doofus too...

 By: patrick_y : October 3rd, 2021-16:37
And I definitely noticed that left ear as well!

I noticed that left ear!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 3rd, 2021-19:06
Ha ha, I see my doofus comment has been a hit! Not even the smallest offense meant! But, I did hope to undercut the inevitable discussion of how every element of a watch is vaguely reminiscent of another watch.

No insult taken at all!

 By: patrick_y : October 3rd, 2021-20:02
The thing is that Lange

No insult at all!

 By: patrick_y : October 3rd, 2021-20:04
The thing is that Lange

I think it's a deadbeat seconds mechanism

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-15:48
Very interesting. I was watching the teaser videos on their website to see a ticking hand.

I don't think so.

 By: Cozmopak : October 3rd, 2021-15:51
I think that was just a very slow motion video. Correct me if I'm wrong though!

I'm not sure too

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-15:55
He said 3 Hertz movement...and mentioned ticking in the video (may be a translation). Yes it seems slow-mo now you've mentioned it.

It’s not dead beat.

 By: mj23 : October 3rd, 2021-17:18
It’s slow motion. You can see each jump is in between the second markers. If it’s a dead beat, it would jump from one second marker to the next second marker directly.

Thanks for clarifying

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-22:43

Balance rate vs. deadbeat seconds

 By: pontifex3365 : October 7th, 2021-06:04
Beat rate of the balance (3Hz) has nothing to do with a seconde morte. Don’t mix up the regulating organ with the display of the seconds.

I know that

 By: Cookies : October 7th, 2021-09:50
The video had a sound beat tempo. It was earlier on before all the specs came about, so we were speculating. It is easy to talk in hindsight but don’t forget we were speculating before all the specs became available.

I like it! Definitely one of the more interesting new offerings in the steel sports watch category.

 By: jleno : October 3rd, 2021-15:56
The movement looks incredible as well. Looking forward to seeing some photos of this!

I see the watches are limited to 33pcs each color….

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 3rd, 2021-16:01
Any info about the retail price?

Here it is

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-16:26
www.definewatches.com.au

Quite reasonable for a first and limited edition…

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 3rd, 2021-17:11
My worry is like the CxxxxxK brand, later on more dial variations and collaborations will flow.

I can easily afford this

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-22:57
And many other indies. But cookies is never a snob or a sycophant. I’m nice to everybody, and u are nice guy too. Money cannot buy class, or respect from people. I feel like some other member here I never heard of, is replying with a 2 tier characteristic...

Same movement as in your Joshua Shapiro, btw.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 3rd, 2021-16:09

Yup, the UWD

 By: Cozmopak : October 3rd, 2021-16:11

So it’s not a deadbeat

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-16:12
Is that a calibre 33.1

Difference is that LH is central second. Shapiro is sub second.

 By: mj23 : October 3rd, 2021-17:17
Thus the minor version difference

Good detail

 By: Cookies : October 3rd, 2021-22:49
Thanks. I hardly know anything about independents. Can’t afford anything in that price range. I’ve spent the equivalent on my house, teddy bears and clothes.=D

UWD sounds like a German movement manufacturer. Would I be incorrect in that guess?

 By: Lankysudanese : October 3rd, 2021-16:23
As for the watch, I’m not a fan, but I doubt that L&H cares about my opinion

Thanks for clarifying. Turns out I was right and wrong at the same time.

 By: Lankysudanese : October 3rd, 2021-16:36
Anybody know why the went for the ‘tissot open heart’ design of the dial? 🤣🤣 ...

To me the opening is more tastefully done

 By: mj23 : October 3rd, 2021-17:20
Than this above open heart example. The opening on the LH is actually the same skeleton bridge on the UWD movement and it shows the gears behind it. So I find it a nice touch. Just my two cents

My first thought is - I wish Lange came up with a bracelet like that instead of what they put on the steel Odysseus ...

 By: als1678 : October 3rd, 2021-16:37
Otherwise the watch is not really to my taste although probably proper judgement should be reserved for when seen in person. Is there a need for that opening in the dial?!

Fair :)

 By: als1678 : October 3rd, 2021-16:45

Lange did have a bracelet like that.

Yes, those Gay Frères bracelets were amazing.

Minor details to have fixed

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : October 3rd, 2021-16:52
Close the hole on the dial Change the hands Then it will be much better.

Movement is jaw dropping

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : October 4th, 2021-15:37
The overall design pale. Odysseus wanna be.

Unfortunately I’m not attracted to the watch

 By: Jurry : October 3rd, 2021-17:16
The dial doesn’t speak to me and the bracelet is to 70’s fir me I realize this is all personal taste and I respect everybody who does like it.

Call me doofus

 By: Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise : October 3rd, 2021-17:21
but first glance the whole watch reminds me of Lange Odysseus, at second glance much worse: Frederique Constant open dial??? Who needs this at a german sport ( ??? ) watch. The whole image is something very eclectic what I don’t like at all.

An article was just published...

I completely agree as a doofus

 By: NT931 : October 4th, 2021-02:44
Love the backside! The front though is rather meh - it doesn't really excite me much.

Forced? I guess they had no choice as a business.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 3rd, 2021-19:44
Would be interested to hear what people think regarding the “why” for this watch. I guess there was little choice from a business perspective. To be clear, if it is a case of selling 40-50 of these a year and doing so allows for the rest of the catalogue ...

I blame Heyne.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 3rd, 2021-20:00

All in all, very nice. Almost sector-dial-ish with the different finishes and right-sized hands. My only issue...

 By: destrodan : October 3rd, 2021-19:48
...is why does any company put out a sports-style watch that doesn't offer at least 100m water resistance. Seems the least that could be offered in this category. This isn't specific to L&H though...

This watch has been heavily over subscribed due to its limited availability

 By: sham1 : October 4th, 2021-04:01
In Singapore, more than fifty orders (and increasing!) have been received so I can imagine that this figure is probably close to 1000 for the whole world. And with only 99 watches available, I think the success of this watch speaks for itself. Firstly, it...

I understand that many of the orders in Singapore went to

 By: Cozmopak : October 4th, 2021-04:34
Sincere, and that many of them have not been sold to individual customers.

Well the allocation remains undecided

 By: sham1 : October 4th, 2021-06:37
Sincere Singapore had ordered 30 out of the 99 pieces so they plan to allocate the watches to current customers first.

I’ve been told that L&H are owned by either NOMOS or Stowa.

 By: Lankysudanese : October 4th, 2021-06:28
Anyone know which group owns them? Would appreciate the input

Thanks Jay.

 By: Lankysudanese : October 4th, 2021-12:52
So L&H isn’t technically an Independent any more.

Someone else needs to jump in here.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 4th, 2021-14:57
But Tempus has “owned” L&H for maybe a decade or so. I don’t know the origin of Tempus however, although I thought I read somewhere that it was formed at the same time as UWD which itself was headed up by Marco Lang (right?). So perhaps Tempus was jus...

It is owned by Prof. Ulrich Rohde

 By: Humanist : October 4th, 2021-19:02
owned by a private visionary www.uhrenkosmos.com

Interesting to know he is US based, and also note the comment re expanding L&H points of sale in the US.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 4th, 2021-21:16
When I was originally looking for a specific model to see in the metal, it was basically impossible. With more points of sale must come more watches.

But realize that others are in love with it. Such are matters of the heart

i Have generally positive feelings about this watch but.....

 By: Spencer Karrington : October 5th, 2021-18:41
Still mixed! I respect that they tried something unique because so many sports watches all look the same lol! However, I feel like they could have gone down the more baroque/classical look like Julien Coudray Sport or Breguet Marine but that would prob be...
