Day/Night. It shows the length of days for your location and time of year. For example the dark “wings” move up or down and depict the length of daylight above. So they move up higher during the winter to show shorter days of daylight. Quite interesting. ...  

I really like simple displays of complex info, it takes some creativity and imagination to display things differently. The Moser perpetual also comes to mind.
