The FP Journe Octa lune is also a date / moonphase watch.

With the crown one can either move moonphase / date in sync, or the moonphase only depending on the direction. If the watch has stopped you can catch up with both indicators, shorter months will introduce a small error in the moonphase over time which needs to be corrected (every other month if one is truly obsessive).

I haven't handled the Hermes in person but would imagine that the settings are similar.

Interesting question or am I just missing something? The Hermes Arc de La Lune. As this watch is not a perpetual calendar and must be adjusted each month . . .

does that not throw off the moon phase accuracy or does one just advance the date disc and the moon continues to revolve as it is? I gather that since the moon phase is not coupled to the date adjustment one just moves the date ahead and the moon phase re...

Without any specific knowledge about the calendar quadrature of this movement

I would assume that the date setting has no connection to the moon phase. The date is just a separate wheel (two interlocking wheels or a sparingly “jumping date”) that operate independent of the separate gear train driving the moon phase.

Interesting points...

Thank you for your view on this interesting piece.

adjust separately

You set the date on the crown and the moon with a pusher at „9“… 😉

so moon must only be adjusted after a couple of month… 😅

Then these “accurate” moon phase watch make no sense at all. They tout they are accurate for 2 years (59 teeth wheel) or longer (122 years) but all that is meaningless

unless you have a watch that is a perpetual. How can a moon phase watch be “accurate” if every two months it has to be readjusted? Can someone please explain this to me?

Now that your question has been answered I’ll just add that I’ve handled this watch and it’s a really cool piece.

So long as you have the wrist to carry it, it’s a big watch on the wrist.

It’s big but not that bad Jay😉

On my 6.5 inch wrist ...

It should allow you to adjust the date independently of the moonphase...

If I recall correctly when I saw this watch last year at Hermes in Geneva during SIHH 2019, I saw a pusher for just the date. If you did advance the crown you would advance the moon as well, which would make it inaccurate by a full day or up to three days...

Hmm. I could be mistaken. Does the manual indicate anything? I've been trying to find the manual online.

That is a really bad design. Kind of like how the 15202 Audemars Piguet lacks a quick change date, on March 1, one has to spin the minute hand 72 times!

here you go....you might find the way movement works in this video

youtu.be it isn't still answering the question on moonphase accuracy though. Best, mahesh., Complex & Creative Moonphase with L'Heure de la Lune by Hermès

my interpretation of this complication from Hermes is different & IMHO you can't compare it with typical moon phase which is linked to calendar calculation.

 By: mahesh : January 21st, 2020-11:39
as the perspective is from north & southern hemisphere (or poles) there is no waxing and waning of moon - so technically no moon phase...(actually Hermes is not refering this as moonphase rather roll of the moon) might be completely wrong in my interp...

As a proud owner of this watch I'll chime in...

Edit: just tested on the watch and it turns out that the moon phase will advance if the date is adjusted.
