Laurent ferrier with a question

I love wearing my LF origin. The shape is great, the dial, the hands, and of course a beautifully finished movement. To me it is great. I had always wanted an LF since seeing their tourbillon and this ticks many boxes. However with owning this, and two mo...

You won't be working forever...

...and you won't have little ones grabbing your arm forever...

True

Getting stuff new, seems things are getting harder and harder to acquire (although still on some 'list' for a pepsi) 😁

I definitely enjoy that time at home!

Although my son (3.5) can definitely test my patience 🀣

Exactly my thoughts.

 By: mrds : June 21st, 2022-02:09
My daughter being 15 now, no more tearing at wrists or playing in the sandbox. There is a reason you felt attracted to beautiful watches, so you’re going to miss them if you give them away. For me, there is no point to reason if watches make sense. None o...

3 grails and 3 kids...

 By: analog_sheen : June 20th, 2022-19:35
keep the watches, write each child a letter telling them what they mean to you, what the watch means to you, and how that fits together, and pass them on when the time is right.

That's a good point

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:08
Who knows if they will like watches. But my kids will definitely get my watch(es) someday. Interestingly, my most sentimental/meaningful may not be my most expensive ones.

Yup

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:08
Not even a watch question, can be apied to anything we have/collect.

The dilemma remains

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:11
Whether seikos, or omegas, or pateks or Richard Mille. I will lean toward keeping. Maybe my thoughts are at a point where if I add more then it will doing it in replacement of something else. Just a sea change in mentality since I have never sold watches ...

Send the LF to me and I promise to wear it for you! πŸ˜‰πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£

 By: lm6 : June 20th, 2022-20:09
Keep them! The kids will grow up, and if you really like the watches you will regret it in the future if you sell them. That said, I fully understand that you think about it and have some doubts as what path to chose.

Haha you are too kind!

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:14
I'm leaning towards keeping. Since I don't need to sell them, that is the easiest answer. Just trying not to consume for consumption sake, however I always have a specific reason for every piece. Although WIS are good at that - case metal, dial color, mov...

It's a hard job but someones got to do it. I consider it a duty as a fellow purist! πŸ˜‰

 By: lm6 : June 21st, 2022-10:07
By keeping it you do not consume for consumption sake. I to always have a reason for the pieces I by (at least I try to convince myself there is a rational reason for the purchase πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚). In a way the thinking is: do I need to by it (have any use for it)? On...

LF specialty.

Timeless watch

 By: toxly347 : June 20th, 2022-20:47
You seem blessed with the capacity to buy what you like. I would absolutely keep this watch. I think it always makes more sense to give to charity at the beginning of the year.

My thoughts as well

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:17
I think these organizations do better knowing finances at beginning of year vs end. But not referring to money I donate, moreso if I have a couch or dresser, etc that has been sitting in basement I have goodwill or local place take as a 'donation.' It hel...

Tough question..

 By: jp884 : June 20th, 2022-21:03
Personally, if I'm not using something, I get rid of it. However, if it brings me joy, even it it is a few times a year I tend to hold onto it. I've been there before where I've sold watches in the past where I felt I was not using them enough although I ...

I do like this idea

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:19
As the enjoyment does not need to be continual to have value. Even brief moments here or there are worthwhile. I think that is a good character - as long as it isn't acquired for the sake to have, buy to enjoy. Albeit in short bursts or continually.

Simple yet true

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:30
Problem is not loving too many πŸ˜‚

Very true!

very personal topic and answers

 By: penfriend : June 20th, 2022-21:36
but even with deeper pockets I would say that at a certain point things that are not used (i.e. watches not worn) will leave the collection. I tend to loose the overview within my different collections and when I realize/remember what I have got that is n...

Very much the case if I were to sell

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:34
I likely would use on something else. And you are completely right, everyone has their own answer. I would assume a watch site would justify having vs selling. For me, the point will be having focus and keeping stuff for purpose. Ia realizing that purpose...

same here

 By: penfriend : June 21st, 2022-06:32
whenever my interested decreases I immediately call the AD to stop the order, even with sought after pieces. never look back, there so much ahead in the future ;-)

Same here for me.

 By: amanico : June 21st, 2022-05:40

If you don't sell, and keep them in a safe place

 By: cazalea : June 20th, 2022-21:43
then whever you feel like a "new" watch, just go pull one out. Then it will be NEW again to you, and perhaps if a few years go by, VINTAGE at the same time. Thats how I justify it... Cazalea

I like this

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:38
Not keeping it in a safe or mint to speculate. But just have breied periods of enjoyment which would lead to it minting like new , either in actual condition or in being out of site for awhile.

If you enjoy wearing the, keep them!

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : June 20th, 2022-23:37

Can't argue with that!

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:39
Could change the straps to keep it interesting πŸ‘

That is a piece you will regret passing on . . .

 By: Jim14 : June 20th, 2022-23:51
you love it too much so after it’s gone, you will pine for it and feel pain when you see a photo of it or talk to a WIS friend about it. For me, my watches go when the passion for that particular piece goes, regardless how much time it spends on my wrist....

I like this idea

 By: TeutonicCarFan : June 21st, 2022-01:40
A watch box where I can see it even if not wearing for a few weeks. I tend to keep a few in my safe just so they aren't laying around per say. But the passion is key for sure!

Maybe time to expand the strap selection πŸ€”

I think almost has been said...

 By: Mike H : June 21st, 2022-22:29
I would definitely keep the ones I love. I would not necessarily accumulate more watches but also not let them go unless I need to (which luckily doesn't seem to be your case). At the end only passion and love should guide you and not the fact that in the...

Keep it.

 By: convexproblem : November 2nd, 2022-18:23
I think if you can NEVER see yourself wearing something again for one reason or another, it makes sense to let it go to someone else who wants to appreciate it. I go through the trouble of selling things that are worth very little money for that reason. I...
