Ferrier Classic Origin v Square

 By: MPP : March 7th, 2022-19:25
Friends, I have decided my next acquisition will be a LF. I just love almost every model he releases and his overall vision. But I’m torn between the Classic Opaline and the Square Micro-Rotor. Here are stock photos from the LF website of the two watches ...

All I would say is, take enough time for your decision

 By: Geo : March 7th, 2022-20:00
because it is really hard. From a visual point of view, they all look great. I love the Classic and the Montre Ecole a lot and especially the Classic fits like a glove on my 18cm wrist. For me, the Square was too clumsy and not really comfy on my wrist, w...

Sound advice

Thank you.

Cushion case for me

 By: ifraher : March 7th, 2022-20:50
In that dial configuration, either colour works. He did a really nice porcelain dial a few years back with tall / condensed numerals all round and red accents (below), great combination ...

Wow

I’ve never this version - wonderful.

The regulator is pretty interesting too

 By: ifraher : March 7th, 2022-21:37
But a little niche, considering the competition within his own ranges ...

Gorgeous!!

+1

 By: MPP : March 8th, 2022-00:10

Agreed

 By: MPP : March 7th, 2022-21:43
I usually prefer manual winds. My only apprehension here is whether the Classic is too dressy for me right now as I no longer wear my dressier watches as I used to. But the fact that it is titanium suggests to me that it can be dressed down for more casua...

Cool and elegant sounds good to me

 By: MPP : March 8th, 2022-00:04
I won’t be surprised if LF issues another version of the Classic with a different dial color soon. The green dial LE sold out quickly, I believe, and I’ve heard that the white Opaline model has been selling well, perhaps in part because of the lower price...

Very valid opinion

Thank you.

I personally

 By: MTR : March 7th, 2022-23:37
would go for the Square Micro-Rotor. It has a case form that’s not often seen. And for me the Square has more wrist presence, is much more casual and definitely … cooler. And has a purer dial with even more power. But that’s just my personal taste. And I ...

Yes, I asked!

 By: MPP : March 7th, 2022-23:54
I appreciate your view. I was hoping for a unanimous WPS opinion, but I knew that would be unrealistic. Thank you.

My pleasure! ☺️

I am very curious what your decision will be.

I had the same dilemma

 By: TeutonicCarFan : March 8th, 2022-01:56
With basically the same two choices. I really liked the cushion shape, numerals and the micro rotor movement on the square. I always found that movement to epitomize LF. When thinking of my use, mainly a weekend watch, I realized I didn't actually need a ...

Thank you 🙏

agree

the strap is perfect

Very helpful.

 By: MPP : March 8th, 2022-02:14
Exactly my dilemma! Fabulous photo that definitely highlights that I could wear the Classic casually. Thank you.

Laurent Ferrier makes a beautiful timepiece!

 By: Jim14 : March 8th, 2022-03:17
I believe either of these works well for a casual use. While that opinion seems obvious for the square case, the classic case gets dressed down because of the sector dial and the numerals on the railroad track adjacent to the bezel. Two reasons I prefer t...

Thanks for the helpful input

I’m getting closer to making a decision but am not quite there yet. Will provide an update when I have decided. And then of course I will likely have to wait quite a while to receive the watch. But the anticipation is some of the fun.

Buy the square!

 By: sham1 : March 8th, 2022-05:28
The numerals and dial are more beautiful than the round model. And even I with my dainty wrist felt comfortable with the 41mm square.

Thank you everyone

 By: MPP : March 8th, 2022-11:05
Interestingly, by my count opinions are now split 5-5 between the two watches. I guess that confirms that both watches are well appreciated by our community. I’ll do some more thinking and will let you know what I decide, and more important, why. Thanks f...

I can only confirm it’s a very difficult choice you have to make…

 By: Mike H : March 8th, 2022-11:39
From my experience both cases Classic and Square are really nice, both are very versatile classy / dressy for sure but so easy to wear, both extremely comfortable (on my wrist at least) so for chosing one of the two don’t try to rationalize but let your h...

Gorgeous!

 By: MPP : March 8th, 2022-14:32
Thank you for sharing. Very interesting to see side by side. Love them both!

as much as I love the classic

 By: Gelato Monster : March 8th, 2022-15:07
I would buy the square. I can buy something else in round anytime

Both beautiful but…

 By: Andy_Mac : March 9th, 2022-08:49
…two very different movements. The natural escapement FBN 229.01 is a beautiful calibre. I really like the aesthetic of both watches but when you turn them over there’s only one winner for me at least. ...

Amazing photos

 By: MPP : March 9th, 2022-10:47
Certainly agree that the movement on the Square is more interesting. You captured its beauty very well. Thanks for weighing in.

The classic dilemma

 By: analog_sheen : March 10th, 2022-05:46
Hello! You are making an excellent choice by picking a Laurent Ferrier as your next watch. Even though you have narrowed your choice down to two watches from his lineup, they are very different indeed. I can empathize with you that this can be a very diff...

Very helpful comments.

 By: MPP : March 11th, 2022-03:53
Thank you. I am leaning towards the Classic Origin. Will start a new thread once I’ve made the decision so I can update everyone who took the time to weigh in.

I personally think the square is more unique

 By: Mr.Gatsby : March 11th, 2022-23:15
If I had to choose one it’s the square. But that said this is a personal choice. I ended up buying 3 LFs, so I happen to own both case shapes. Best Gatsby

Thank you for your input

 By: MPP : March 15th, 2022-14:01
Maybe that’s the solution - I need more than one LF.
