The back view of the Grönefeld Principia

While some laments the use of a solid rotor on the Grönefeld Principia, the 22-karat solid red gold monobloc rotor of the Principia is actually one of my favourite part of the movement. It is extensively decorated by hand and features a frosted finishing...

Thanks mate! [nt]

My favourite automatic watch!

Personally I prefer it to the Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro Rotor which has an exquisite movement. Maybe it is because I think very highly of the Gronefeld brothers

IMO the LF Galet Micro Rotor and the FPJ Chronometre Bleu are the Principia’s direct competitors

As a complete package, I personally prefer the Gronefeld to the other two.

More the LF I think

because the Chronometre Bleu is a manual winding watch even though it is quite similar size wise. I would still choose the Gronefeld over the Bleu in terms of movement finishing and the classic looking dial. The Bleu may be a better investment proposition...

Love mine!...Jim

I really like the movement "look" with the small Islands!

I wonder if you could persuade the brothers to skeletonize the rotor a bit, to open it up even more?

I believe someone on WPS already asked the Brothers to skeletonise or open up the rotor already.

Not sure if the Brothers acceded to the request though. Last I asked them about minor customisation on the dial, it was a firm no.

Interesting. Too bad they don't do more customization. I guess when they don't make their own dials, it's more complicated.

I have commisioned a watch with a local watchmaker, and being involved in the design process, including the dial, is super exciting and a very important part for me.

The attention to the details is amazing.

Everything the Grönefeld brothers make is extremely well done and the 1941 case is just the perfect size.

Totally agree! [nt]
