I am not sure about that!

A Collected Man prefer to buy watches and not to sale them as consignee.
I think maybe they underestimated the “market” price for the watch. If you see the recent prices of the Simplicities ( over 1 million CHF at certain auctions ) you can easily recognise: the watch was too “cheap”! 😀😄😃

Anyhow, the deal is good for everybody: ACM, Dufour, the new owner and as the most important issue: for the whole indepent haute horlogerie...

Truly yours,

Adam

Philippe Dufour’s masterpiece, the Petite and Grand Sonnerie sets a world record at 5.505.000 GBP! Now this is the most expensive independent wristwatch in the world and also in the ten most expensive wristwatch worldwide! Well deserved, Maestro! Also con...

Haute Horologie is a billionaires' game now.

Hi Adam

Correct me if I am wrong but this is the asking price but the watch has not actually been sold yet at that price.

Shows sold

 By: Mikekraft : August 17th, 2021-08:32
According to the website it sold at that price.

I stand corrected!

And am obviously out of date

I am out of date (as usual!) :-)

 By: sham1 : August 17th, 2021-09:49
That is an amazing price but I think it would have fetched a higher price if sold at a Philips auction. If I had been the owner, I would have left it at Philips. There is no guarantee of course but in the current climate, the watch would have fetched an e...

Very possible so

 By: sham1 : August 17th, 2021-10:18
but still in the current market, a watch like that should be auctioned as buyers are behaving irrationally and paying over the top for even insignificant pieces.

:))))

 By: amanico : August 17th, 2021-10:33

I cannot imagine there was no pre-agreed,deal with a serious buyer before putting this up for sale.

 By: ChetBaker : August 17th, 2021-09:10
It was sold almost immediately and it seems to have gone for at or near the asking price. Not sure how I feel about this watch selling for so much money.

Not only it is gone for the asking price…

…but apparently in just few hours ! 😳

I am not sure about that!

I tend to agree with you my old friend

I was wondering the same...

Normally though when ACM has pre-sold, they make an announcement after the sale and the watch is then listed on the website as sold. This happened in 2019 when they placed the Daniels Blue tourbillon with a client for £1million. This was a very speedy sal...

Some watches are ART !

 By: Bruno.M1 : August 17th, 2021-11:23
Not talking about big brands where a zillion watchmakers do make your Rolex, Patek, JLC, AP, Zenith.... But independents that make 1 watch entirely themselves... That is art to me I see no reason why a Picasso or Van Gogh or..... can be worth 1-5-25 and m...

I saw this when it was first launched on AcM and actually spoke about it with a small group of watch friends. A couple hours later it SOLD and we were just GOBSMACKED...

Truly an UNBELIEVABLE result for a private sale but given 8 were produced and the provenance of this piece belonging to the Sultan of Brunei, it was expected that it would sell for crazy money. Congrats to Silas and the team at AcM as well as the private ...

thanks very much for pointing out the video!

Art

I think it makes sense when you look at this in the context of art. Fine watchmaking is art, and I would personally rather own this than a painting!

Casemaker?

 By: Watchcph : August 17th, 2021-15:45
Sorry to hijack the thread with a possible stupid question, but does anybody know who made the case? Did Dufour make it himself and what about the later Simplicities?

Not sure.

 By: m2 : August 17th, 2021-21:34
The dials on the newer simplicity models are not made by him.

Yes. That is true.

 By: Watchcph : August 18th, 2021-16:27
The dials for the Simplicity is made by Metalem. There should be some hallmarks by the casemaker. Perhaps just a question of digging a bit deeper.

I believe cases were made by Chatelain (now owned by

Ah, OK

Thank you for sharing. A fellow collector mentioned on IG that it might be the work of Mr. Oreade who also made cases for Minerva?

Whoever acquired it, that is a beautiful piece and with the right dimensions

Wow, what a number...

...I wonder what the next "regular" Simplicity will go for when i comes up at auction. It seem like it's been quite a while since there has been one (not including the special edition version). Any guesses?

Now more wary of A Collected Man

There is no doubt that it offers some of the best writing on fine watches available. For sheer educational content it's as good as it gets, and it's free too. At the same time it is also a sales platform, which is why its writing is free to read. As such,...
