I actually quite like the size,

combined with the short lugs it looks like as if the watch is stretched taut over the wrist, giving the image of under tension and muscular, like a tiger ready to strike, if that makes sense. Not sure that's the image they would like to portray but it looks as such to me and I like it!

A revivification of a great English watchmaking master: A visit to Charles Frodsham

 By: gadalex : June 12th, 2019-09:09
On the 26 th October last year I made one of my regular visits to 30 Berkeley Square, the London offices of Phillips auction house, to view some of the consigned timepieces that were to be up for sale in Geneva, Hong Kong and New York the following month....

Baruch, you just make me want to see these watches " in the metal ". Especially the steel version. The dial is top, the applied hours markers, too. The movement, wow!

As for the case, I really have to get a closer look, but overall, I like what I am seeing, a lot. Thanks for this superb post, Baruch. Thanks for allowing us to discover this brand! Best, Nicolas

Thank you Nicolas

When you're next in London you should drop Richard an email and I've no doubt he'll be delighted to host you for a visit. There's nothing more he enjoys than a good chat with a fellow horophile and collector. Best, Baruch

Great, informative post! Many thanks.

With the "Frodshams" being so selective regarding the journalistic coverage of the watches, it is superb to have such detailed information supported by excellent photos here. The additional bonus when enthusiasts are reporting is the personal part of the ...

Thanks Björn

It is clear to me now having spent quite some time with Richard at a number of horological events that he is a true horophile who prefers the company of like minded people, many of whom are simply collectors, amateur watchmakers and eccentric, mainly Brit...

Thank you! Much appreciated!

Frodsham has really allowed only a handful of reports about their new wristwatch, so yours is really a treasure!

A fine compliment that I truly appreciate

I genuinely enjoyed the interaction when I posted originally on Instagram and have kept the commentary almost identical knowing that it has been checked by Richard himself. It is important to respect the objectives of those that offer you access into such...

Nice watches.

Excellent post Baruch!

Thank you for the detailed look into the Frodsham watch. Truly superb watchmaking going on here. As a fellow Brit, it makes my heart swell a bit to see these watches being made in old Blighty! I too hope to get a chance to drop in and see Richard on my ne...

Superb post about non less superb watches

To be honest I know much less about Frodsham than about Swiss brands but I have read your superb post with delight. It made me willing to know more about this brand, I shall certainly have to go and meet them one of these days. Again many thanks for your ...

Cheers Mike

I genuinely believe that the Frodsham journey is fascinating especially considering the resultant timepiece packed full of exceptional details and well thought out decisions. The most surprising thing about the watch is how unassuming it is when seen at a...

At 42.2mm I’m not sure how it would look...

...on a 7.25” wrist. Make one under 40mm (38mm is perfect) and I just might start saving my pennies : ) The dials are spectacular and the movement has a lot of interest. Great report and photos...thanks!

Ooops you have a point ! I did not realise that...

Indeed these beauties are obviously in the family of dress watches but probably due to my small wrist I consider the ideal size to be around 38 / 39 mm for a dress watch...

I tried on a Rexhepi (his own prototype)...

...at 38mm and it was perfect. Unfortunately he was unwilling to customize it to my liking. I would be happy to go vintage at 35 - 36mm, and there are some beauties out there (PP 3940 for example). To me, a ‘dress’ watch should be elegant and unobtrusive....

We must be on (or near) the same time zone...

Let me know if you ever want to meet for coffee...

Wrist shots are missing!

 By: gadalex : June 13th, 2019-11:18
I didn't really focus that much on trying on the watch, which may be a little surprising. One of the reasons for the case size is the movement size. Unlike some high level brands that oversize their cases to fit movements that are too small and then even ...

Thanks...

...wearing a 38mm vintage Omega now that is perfect (it’s a dress watch). My daily beater is an old Sub at 40mm. It’s hard to imagine wearing something even larger than that. Someday I hope to try one of these on for size. Thanks again.

Brilliant introduction to how you met Mr. Stenning! And of course, beautiful photography as always!

These are the kind of watches are always worth a closer look due to how different they are versus more conventional watches. And as you've illustrated, its not just the movement. One thing that I find particularly exemplary is the vapor deposited medallio...

Thank you Skyeriding! Your comments are most appreciated.

Just a note on the PVD. Firstly, Richard, being very particular about language, corrected me when I called it printing so make sure you don't make the same mistake if you meet him! And secondly, the method is particularly exciting as far as I'm concerned ...
