Depending on how the date is integrated to the dial I would say yes but in most cases, it is a no!

5711: no
5712: yes

Quick poll: date or no date?

 By: Mike H : August 28th, 2019-18:25
I was realizing the other day that many of us are biaised and clearly dislike a date window on the dial. Even if I am not an extremist in this respect as some other friends here… (guess who I am thinking of hahaha) I must confess that I am also in the sam...

Even though I am waiting for a 5711

 By: sham1 : August 28th, 2019-18:34
I would vote for a no date sports watch and given a choice a no date 5711! And I am no less extreme I believe than our friend!, the only exception for me would be the Patek 5212 below where the dial actually looks right with a date. ...

No date unless it's at least an annual calendar.

 By: dhendolan : August 28th, 2019-18:48
Being periodically wrong or having to remember to correct undermines the utility of the function

For the “classy sports watch” no date unless the date disc matches the dial colour.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 28th, 2019-19:03
I much prefer this: To this, even though in this case the lure of the green outweighed my indifference to both the cyclops and the white date disc. ...

You have a good point but also clearly mentioned you prefer no date...

 By: Mike H : August 28th, 2019-19:09
So at this stage I count you in favor of no date but shall correct to half point only if you tell me… So far : No date 3 ; with date 0

Prefer no date. [nt]

None for me [nt]

No date for me

 By: jleno : August 28th, 2019-19:56
That being said, I think the date hate is blown way out of proportion. In most cases like the Nautilus and RO you mentioned, they are fairly benign and do not change the overall aesthetics of the watch significantly. Maybe the one exception where I actual...

I am with you most probably a small window is better

 By: Mike H : August 28th, 2019-20:48
With the exception you mention, but no window is even better. Thus no date 6 ; with date 0

100% agree, when the date is the feature (as with these, or the Dato) then it’s something I really appreciate it.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 29th, 2019-04:10
The Dial has been designed around the date as key element versus it being what seems like an afterthought in many other dials.

That's it. [nt]

Hey!

 By: TheMadDruid : August 29th, 2019-18:47
You already voted!

It depends. Some brands and watches integrate the date better than others

 By: emcquillan : August 28th, 2019-21:02
I prefer no date in general, but find Lange and Rolex integrate their dates into their watches’ dial layouts most effectively. I like dates at 3’ or 12’ generally, but never between 4-5 or anywhere that isn’t symmetrical. So for sought after models liked ...

Put this guy down as a No-Dater. [nt]

My recent

experience of not being able to wear a watch made me realise how often i turned to my wrist to look for the date whether at work or engaged in some recreational , for a versatile classy sports watch, which i would often use,a date would definitely be a pl...

No date

 By: nwk00 : August 28th, 2019-22:46
Date only works if you have few watches. Otherwise it's a chore to set them. No date for most people because most of us have multiple watches nowadays and rotate frequently. Plus the watch brands rarely get the date display right. Sometimes it's the font,...

I think it totally depends on the execution of the date complication

 By: fourtaelsgold : August 28th, 2019-22:48
I like the convenience of having a date even though in most cases the poor execution results in an unbalanced dial. However when it’s unobtrusive and blends in well with the rest of the dial, I think it’ll add to the utility of the watch. ...

Less is more...

 By: trs : August 29th, 2019-00:14
... but I live by the rule that all my simple three-handers have to have a date window, be it an IWC Pilot, Nautilus, or Calatrava. I am also in the minority of those who prefer a white date window on dark dials and I very much prefer the date window at t...

No-Date....i never had doubt on this since my first watch !

 By: mahesh : August 29th, 2019-00:20
I do agree, few watch makers design 'date' function more eloquently than most others (sadly)... few examples i can think of are, 1) Big Date in Dato / Saxonia Date - a layout / dial design that clearly emphasize on this function & really brings an aesthet...

No date for me

 By: rnaden : August 29th, 2019-00:25
I find that most designs and beautiful dials get ruined by a date window because most of the time, they are not sufficiently cohesive. Noted that there are some that are done well, but that's usually the exception.

The main function of the watch is to see the correct time.

 By: dr.kol : August 29th, 2019-00:51
Also the date is important for me. So date. Kari

I dont mind a date or no date . It all depends what kind of watch .

 By: Watchonthewrists : August 29th, 2019-01:02
So put me down as : Date 👍🏻

Five watches in my collection

Zero date

+1

 By: mahesh : August 29th, 2019-04:36
same here...4 watches - zero date...

Depends on the watch but ..

 By: Cpt Scarlet : August 29th, 2019-01:18
Many designs don’t integrate the date window harmoniously and this causes the problem.

It depends

 By: Uncle Chico : August 29th, 2019-01:47
ALS big date appeals to me as do some PP references. Otherwise, no date.

NO DATE!

 By: Bounce781 : August 29th, 2019-02:19
(Says the guy currently wearing a perpetual calendar). For me, either the date is ALWAYS correct or forget it. So, no date for me 😀

No date for me!

 By: Karlisnet : August 29th, 2019-03:58
I much prefer balance and simplicity in a dial rather than a date window.

It depends...

 By: Emil Wojcik : August 29th, 2019-07:40
This watch would not exist without a date, and it's one of my favorite watches... But time-only watches in general are more attractive to me, even though most of my watches have a date because I find it more useful. ...

I think of it this way.

 By: BMR : August 29th, 2019-08:36
A date doesn’t necessarily kill a watch for me, but if I hypothetically have a choice between a version with date or a version without the date - I’m going with the no date version 99% of the time.

No Date given the choice. [nt]

By: India Whiskey Charlie : August 29th, 2019-13:05

I feel strongly both ways.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 29th, 2019-18:52
But...I may lean towards no date.
