I will use it for extreme macros

normally I use a Zeiss Macro Planar 100mm for regular watch photos. So I will say it is a good complement but not a major lens.

even with its focusing abilities it isn't perhaps suitable as a core lens, as you say. I'll look forward to seeing your results and your opinions!
