Women's watches, bless them

Padj recently asked about his mom's Elgin watch. And that led to some conversation about the watches made for the woment we love.

I dug around the watch drawer today and found a few of the smaller lady watches in my possession. (My apologies for not having a better macro lens on hand)

For reference, the US dime (our smallest coin) is 18mm.

Here is the cutest little Omega you will ever see, all of 15mm diameter case

It has a signed crown on the back. Ala Ressence and Pita

Here's a Lucien Piccard

14k gold case but not more than $1 worth of gold there, I'd guess.

A tonneau shaped Movado

with a 17 jewel movement shaped to fit the case (or vice versa) Not running though, and I don't fancy finding and fitting a new balance staff.

Here is a tiny ladie's locket music box that a neighbor asked me to fix. I'm afraid it's a goner though.

Not waterproofed, as you can see.

Here's a comparison to my Seiko diver which is 40mm without crown.

Finally, a few replacement dials for obscure watches.

Need I answer any more questions about WHY I no longer work on this kind of watch? Would the pile of eyeglasses and loupes be a clue? smile

Cheers and happy weekend (almost over)

Cazalea

FYI - the smallest on record that I know of is the JLC 101 movement, bottom right.

It amazes me that watchmakers could make movements that small.

I mean mechanical. Also amazing is the skill with which watchmakers were/are blessed in being able to repair these little fellows. Nice pictorial, Cazalea.

+1, Padj. [nt]
