I'll mention more about comfort. It's not something that's mentioned often enough...

Mar 07, 2018,21:28 PM

So many reviewers of the Lange Datograph (great watch) in platinum just say how good it is, how wonderful the finishing is, etc. But few mention how heavy it is. How tight you have to strap it on your wrist in order for it to feel secure. The case back has a protruding area in the back so that heavy watch is spread over a smaller area. It always leaves an impression on your wrist. The Zeitwerk Striking Time. Such a cool watch. But the strap is a little chafing on the wrist because it's got a huge watch spread over a small width strap. They should've made a wider strap (like a Panerai is a huge watch but a very wide strap as well spreading the weight evenly).

I like to get a little technical, but I try to hold back and wait for someone to ask for specifics in the comments/discussion. For instance, the Vacheron Constantin Tourbillon pictured above is a little unusual. It's a bigger balance wheel, and slower beat watch. Advantage, bigger balance wheel is less prone to shocks. Disadvantage, the slower beat means if the balance wheel does experience a shock, the slower beat will necessitate a longer recovery time, meaning a longer interruption in accuracy.

That Vacheron Constantin Tourbillon is immensely comfortable. The right weight balance. The right thickness and a large 41MM diameter. But it doesn't look big at all. And a super cool peripheral winding rotor that doesn't block the view of the transparent tourbillon!

When You Read A Watch Review, What Are You Looking For?

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-09:35
If you're on this website, you obviously value time, and I just want to make sure that when you invest the time to read a posting that you actually enjoy it, you find it informative, and it is a good use of your time! Here on PuristSPro, we try to include...

I look for an honest, personal evaluation.

 By: JToddH : March 7th, 2018-09:59
Specific data on the piece should be included, but ultimately (for me), reading a review is about capturing one person's emotional response to a piece. What elements capture their attention? You can look at brand product shots all day long, but out in the...

Thank you! [nt]

My pleasure 🙏

Best wishes Alkiro

Thank you!

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-11:56
I've noticed some interesting areas on this case that you can't generally see on the photos. Some nice details, lines, and cavities that I'm rather fond of. I'll be sure to mention them! PuristSPro is a place for me to be who I am. An admitted watchaholic...

I like the format of The Watch Enthusiast

Got it.

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-11:43
Thanks for sharing. 1. I like the better photos hi-lighting the features not noticeable in the press photos. 2. Excellent idea when applicable! 3. Yes! I love how some watches are different among variations; Lange's Rose Gold watches have a polished caseb...

I appreciate to read the good with the bad and get a frank evaluation of market objectives

 By: Joepny : March 7th, 2018-10:33
What are you looking for when you read a watch review? I want to know about the watch's practical characteristics. Price, size (length x height x width), what the complication/function is doing, what is the quality of the movement and interaction with the...

A thorough answer, thank you!

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-21:09
Hmm, I'll try to include more case dimensions. It's sometimes difficult to get certain dimensions... You can normally find out the thickness of the case, and the diameter of the case, but it's hard to find out the length of the case with the lugs. I have ...

As soon as I see marketing language provided by the brand I quit

 By: dedestexhes : March 7th, 2018-11:00
but I have to say that a lot of the reviews are very personal, so appreciate all the hard work. In the end we’re all grown up individuals, so even if I read reviews with a lot of interest, I’m old enough to form my own opinion 😀. So I think I will rarely ...

I just spent all my time ogling the photographs. I guess there's your answer xD. Cheers, Filip

Top topic, Patrick. I think our members value honesty and independance. These 2 values represent what we are, here. And not only the moderators, but also our members who write reviews...

Or express their opinion, enthusiasm, passion, and sometimes disappointment, in a very fair, educated and elaborated way. That's our richness. I will not say it better than what Velociphile wrote. A lot of excellent advices, which we should keep in mind w...

Don't do it like the professionals, with at least 70% of the article rewording the specifications in prosa and retelling what was found in the user's manual

 By: BjoernM21 : March 7th, 2018-11:38
I have almost given up reading commercial watch magazines, because what information I get from "tests"/"reviews" could usually have been gathered with a few bullet points. I appreciate a very subjective assessment of the watch, with reasons given for the ...

Thank you Bjoern!

Good point about the points system. If I use it I'll definitely try to mention the specifics for additions and subtractions! Thank you Bjoern!

What are you looking for when you read a watch review? Watch comparisons, because there are trustworthy authors whose opinions are close to a real try. Comparative photos are also useful. Chronometric tests( i never read how incredibly precise a watch is)...

Got it. Thank you for being specific.

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-21:17
Chronometric tests are a little difficult. All i can do is compare it to a reference clock (my Apple iPhone). I don't have a Witschi machine. You wouldn't believe it, but there are a large amount of people who simply want advice on what to buy based on it...

I know it's barely impossible to collect useful data, but good comparative photos will be enough!

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : March 8th, 2018-02:24
We are a forum, not an official webzine, thus what you can show us will be fine. If i think to famous blogs, NO ONE has ever reported a chronometric test (afaik); it's all about the money. There are some technical analysis extremely detailed and instrutcti...

Yep, i always believe that data are essential

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : March 8th, 2018-05:21
Because beauty is subjective and personal, but data are objective and impersonal. Obviously for some purirsts is not necessary to know and read data like those, but accuracy and precision are the basis in watchmaking like in any other scientific field. I ...

People need to comment more on what they're impressed about...

Excellent points! Thanks for sharing...

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2018-15:40
Magnus is such a Purist that he actually has the equipment to measure the rate and beat variations. I unfortunately don't. All I do is compare it to my iPhone.

most important is independant review

 By: watch-guy.com : March 7th, 2018-14:13
I think we get turned off by marketing by subterfuge PPro is great in that most the reviews here are independent 1.I do like personal opinions either way. How the watch looks and feels on the wrist How easy can you tell the time . Does it feel comfortable...

A couple of my faviourite watch reviews sites are quilandpad, thewatchestv, deployant, and sjx watches. What I like about these watch review sites is that they are very passionate about watches, have lots of good pictures and are also very knowledgeable. ...

You've got great taste in what you read/watch. I'm familiar with all the ladies and gentlemen on those sites, they are indeed knowledgeable and passionate. And I'm glad that you're reading PuristSPro as well. Got any specific questions related to the Vach...

I am super excited to read it :)

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 8th, 2018-18:33
I would like both high quality and poor quality images. I may be the only one but I think that you can get a better impression of how a watch will really look in bad images that do not have perfect lighting. That may just be me though Also, lots of images...

Ahh...

 By: patrick_y : March 8th, 2018-23:52
Well, I just read the press release on this watch and unfortunately no gushing story about the origins of this watch. I've got several photos of it. I had a nice and busy weekend with it. I probably won't post all the photos in the actual review. But you ...

One thing I never see, but would like to see is...

 By: Brandon Skinner : March 7th, 2018-16:57
...a far away wrist shot! It's amazing how 36mm and 47mm can made to look great on the same wrist so long as the camera gets close enough to the timepiece. I would love to see a photo of a watch from 6ft/2m or so away. Even better if possibly on the wrist...

Good one. Very specific!

 By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2018-21:35
I'll see what I can do there... Runway models are very expensive. And to find two of them might be a little hard! Joking aside, you're the second person asking for lug to lug measurements. We're going to have to figure out a way to communicate that! Thank...

Gotta go dig out the calipers, tape the metal part with plastic tape (to avoid scratches)...

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2018-15:32
I didn't get to measure the lugs on the watch I just had to review and I had to give it back yesterday. Too bad. Next Time!

Thank you JToddH! Most of what I would say has been shared. In short, the review ought to “add value.” I define that as follows:

 By: Obeezy : March 8th, 2018-06:16
What is the the review sharing that isn’t readily apparent? For example, little idiosyncrasies that one notices after holding and wearing the watch, value for the money etc. The specs are pretty much articulated in the press release, but confirmation of s...

We try to add value; but what is of value to each person is different, hence this post! And our reviews are already differentiated compared to others.

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2018-15:37
Thank you for your response. I like those little idiosyncrasies that are often not mentioned as well. I'll see if I notice any on this watch!

No worries at all!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2018-17:08
Thanks again! Hopefully all the information in our review conveys the values that you're looking for!

Perhaps it’s already been said, but I want Passion, Opinion (balanced) and Information...

And pictures. Lots of good pictures helps. John

Always ask for more pictures...

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2018-15:34
Tons of pictures get cut in the editing process. So we've definitely got some more photos. Just ask for them in the comments section and generally if they have more they will just respond to you personally!

Rigorous performance data

 By: mkvc : March 9th, 2018-16:46
Thanks for asking, Patrick. It's relatively easy to decide whether we like the way a watch looks, but it's very hard to predict how it will actually work. The things I am most interested in learning that can be hard to determine without living with the wa...

Got it!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2018-17:12
I don't have the Wischi machine for accuracy unfortunately, so it's hard for me to determine accuracy other than using my cell phone. So far the watch has been anywhere from +2 to -1 second per day. Over the past few days I think I'm behind a couple secon...

I enjoy any reviews written by the moderators on this site. For me this is my pastime and enjoyment as I have collected timepieces for over thirty years. I have never compared one watch against another (unless it is a fake) as I do not think that is a use...

We try to include very little fluff! And if you see a lot of fluff, ask the reviewer what they meant by that. Call it out. Give the reviewer a chance to defend his/her statement. Then make your own judgment. Believe me, people want to read your opinion, e...

Very interesting topic.

But I would like to reply: even if I understand the expectations, I keep my style and my way to write reviews. Because it is the way I enjoy writing them and if I enjoy doing it, it will be more enjoyable for the readers. Moreover, we have to consider dif...
