As I have had quite a number of watches in my life

I would take just one watch and it would be a toss between the Greubel Forsey Signature One and a Patek Philippe MInute Repeater World Timer

The Signature 1 - Greubel Forsey’s most wearable watch. Immaculately finished

The Patek 5531R - a sublime dial

What would you rather have?

One entry level watch from all the top luxury brands or one watch and only one watch? And please don’t take this question seriously I’m only asking for fun plus I thought it would make an interesting question. Oh one last thing please let us know what wat...

For me…

 By: APROchrono : November 7th, 2021-04:13
… one entry level watch from each of the top brands when I was young, and then one top watch now that I am older. A good analogy for my approach to dating and marriage. Top one watch would likely be my 15202 Jumbo or a PP PC, likely the 5327G (beautiful a...

Good choices

For me I would have a hard time picking one watch or multiple watches ha ha ha.

Having said that…

 By: APROchrono : November 7th, 2021-06:17
… have an “entry level” incoming. Still not confirmed as it is a tough watch to get, but if I do get it, will post pictures.

Can’t wait to see it

I would happily ride off into the sunset with one of these...

 By: mdg : November 7th, 2021-04:41
...even though my hearing is terrible and the repeater would be wasted on me. But I love the case shape...perfection. ...

I don’t know what model that is

 By: kevinc1001 : November 7th, 2021-05:33
But I sure do like it

Probably easier said than done

 By: kevinc1001 : November 7th, 2021-17:25

Not there yet

Enjoying the way for the moment, but I wouldn’t mind trading some of my hearing for one of these as a single piece collection. An excess of health is overrated. Have a good weekend

Sorry but you are wrong

Trust me your health is the most valuable thing you can have and no amount of money can compensate for ill health ever. Marc

Thanks Marc

I agree with your observation, but I think you may have misunderstood my comment. I belong to the surgical world and I am often confronted with the limitations of my profession. In my experience excellent health at all costs is not what patients want or n...

I’d take this one, and never look back.

 By: Lankysudanese : November 7th, 2021-05:32
I’d change the strap, though. My philosophy is: if I can’t afford to get the upper-echelon models in a brand, then the entry models will never scratch the itch. ...

For me, i don't really think about entry level or not as long as i like it and i can afford,

 By: hoseachandra : November 7th, 2021-05:52
But definitely i think i would not be satisfied with only 1 watch. It is just too many great watches out there to settle with one. As for my grail watch that maybe the last watch i would buy for my final journey, is this : Calatrava 5212A. Useful complica...

That’s in Steel Right?

 By: kevinc1001 : November 7th, 2021-17:31
If so how are these not more popular than the Nautilus? Since most Patek dress watches are made in precious metals.

Honestly i don"t get it too. Admittedly i am not fan of the Nautilus (prefer Aquanaut)

 By: hoseachandra : November 7th, 2021-22:56
But i think those 2 steel "sport" watches are way overrated. If i had 50K at my hand, i would certainly get this Calatrava any day, any time over the Nautilus.

Thanks for sharing!

What a view!!

Agreed on that one... ;)

Kinda hard may be vacheron 1921p

 By: patekvcap : November 7th, 2021-06:25
Kinda hard to pick … But if i were forced by my lady to give up all watches but to keep one…. I would probably pick my old faithful Vacheron 1921pt ...

Ooooooof, superb, this one.

 By: amanico : November 7th, 2021-08:25

Getting the entry level models is my strategy for the top indie brands actually, as the high end models are too expensive for me.

 By: Sfwatchlover : November 7th, 2021-06:36
With this strategy I have bought FP Journe Chronometre Souverain, De Bethune DB-27, Gronefeld Principia (still waiting for delivery). So I am quite pleased with this strategy. For other brands like Patek and Lange, I have acquired 1-2 mid level models. I ...

Interesting question!

 By: patrick_y : November 7th, 2021-07:09
I simply go for what I like. Sometimes I'll see if I can afford the watch in steel rather than gold. I like gold as much as anyone else, but I don't need my watches to be encased in it. Although I can't always afford those special Vacheron Constantin and ...

Great advice — I am struggling with my next purchase — pre-owned PP (Gondolo) or pre-owned VC (Historiques)!

 By: orahu : November 7th, 2021-10:18
I have a theme for my small watch collection — both fit the profile in different ways!

Thanks, I'm probably biased in favor of the Gondolo, but either way you'll end up with an iconic model from one of the most historically relevant watchmakers....you simply can't be wrong here! :-)

 By: FabR : November 7th, 2021-15:23
If you would post the two candidates on either forum, you might receive some helpful comments from our members on the two specific references, which sometimes helps with a decision...In any case, sincere good luck with this (excellent) choice!

Thanks for the suggestion — I think I will make a decision tomorrow —

 By: orahu : November 8th, 2021-03:40
The two watches in question are a VC Historiques (33 mm) Reference 92239 in yellow gold with box but no papers. Or, the PP Gondolo Reference 5009j in yellow gold with applied Arabic numbers and with papers (plus hang tag) but no box. The price of the PP i...

I have always bought watches I find attractive and want to wear.

 By: Uncle Chico : November 7th, 2021-08:41
Two of them would be characterised as entry level but neither the price point nor the description made a difference in my decision. My one watch collection would be an MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual.

You Have Chosen... Wisely :)

One Watch Is Fine ONLY If....

 By: enjoythemusic : November 7th, 2021-13:54
...if your life's travels have absolutely ZERO diversity. Yet for some humans, we live a diverse lifestyle that includes playing sports, attending formal events... to casual days at the beach. Imho there's no single timepiece that can do it all, especiall...

I think One watch will be too boring & will not fit-in every situation...

 By: mahesh : November 7th, 2021-15:12
we need a variety for sure...now finding a right number is one's own journey ;-) Best, mahesh.,

I have a self-imposed upper limit that I won't exceed for any single watch.

 By: Rosneathian : November 10th, 2021-17:02
I could go past that level if I wanted to, but it wouldn't sit easily with me. Fortunately that number is high enough to make an enormous range of watches available, so I like to explore and sample. At the same time there are undervalued watches because t...
