there is a smaller version, but 30mm. I find the 40 wears nicely due to the 8.7mm thickness paired with a 21mm strap.

Put a "Zenith" on Patek's pilot-y watch and see. However, I like to think that this just creates opportunities for purists to enjoy great watches from brands that aren't as hyped. Longines has some real winners, for example.

I agree, and there are several other examples. For Longines, they definitely have some excellent pieces in the catalogue.
