Were you able to get a sense of why the pricing is like that, or do you have a theory?

I’m not sure what your experience is with RM, but I’ve been curious as to whether their pricing is marketing genius or something drastically different about materials and construction that directly supports their pricing model. Note: I’m not trying to open the topic price/value per se, which we don’t do here. But I would want to know what is so different between RM and MB&F, DeBethune, or Urwerk for example, whose acquisition costs are also very high. Perhaps a topic for in person.

Dubai Watch Week: Cool Watch Alert: Vanguart Black Hole Tourbillon

 By: patrick_y : November 20th, 2023-14:55
I saw this at Dubai Watch Week and I found it to be very impressive! I found it to be THE MOST SURPRISING WATCH at Dubai Watch Week! It's a digital watch kind of like the Lange Zeitwerk, but it has a more futuristic TRON/Spaceship vibe. It also adds a Fly...

Yes! Correct! 7:41

This is indeed very attractive, in a similar vein to Urwerk, etc.

Given the connection with R&Papi, I’m going to guess that pricing is in the RM range. So, I will admire from a distance.👍🏽

YES!

Exactly, RM price range. Also think it has a Tourbillon, so RM price range with Tourbillon! I am relegated to a distance as well! My only chance of ever wearing this watch is for a week at a time - as a loan for a review. I wonder if it's reliable. The La...

I didn’t know that about the Zeitwerk.

For some reason I imagined the opposite.

You thought the Zeitwerk was reliable?

 By: patrick_y : November 24th, 2023-08:40
Au contraire, the only reliable Zeitwerk is the one that's worn seldomly. And most are worn seldomly since they're a pain to wind, they're huge and thick, they're not very comfortable, and thus not worn very often. Which is good - as one will not be too d...

Have to ruminate...

To decide about this watch.

At least you can ruminate...

 By: patrick_y : November 21st, 2023-09:58
The price was so high for me that I think I have to bow out as gracefully as I can. This is one of those pieces where I realized that I actually did have to ask what the price was (it is about double what I expected it to be) and that the term, "if you ha...

I don’t challenge a brand’s pricing strategy.

 By: patrick_y : November 21st, 2023-17:29
The brand may have a better understanding of their costs and brand positioning than I do. And thus be more qualified to assign a price than I am. Pricing varies widely. Chopard timepieces are underpriced. But I don’t want them to know that. Louis Vuitton’...

I saw a video about this. Interesting BUT I learned my way that any watch that has a difficult way to read the time

or busy dial should be an hard pass. After the novelty wears off, you are left with a mess.

That's definitely a fair opinion!

I still think this watch looks pretty darn good - and every novelty wears away after a while.
