Are you all as uptight as me about matching watch strap color with belt and shoes? Is this something that everyone does when dressing for work or other more formal times? When I see a black leather strap watch and the person is wearing brown shoes and belt, I get all agitated (j/k... kinda). This makes an argument for the versatility of a bracelet with a neutral colored dial. What say you?

To be honest, it bugs me too.

That's why I have my watches on metal, gray perlon, or navy leather - these work fine with both black and brown shoes.

I'm with you too

thus I prefer the bracelet, or to leave my shirt untucked as I'm retired. My straps are black 60%, brown 30% and blue 10% and a couple others (green, red). I only have black, brown, blue, green, white shoes so can't match the red strap Cheers Cazalea

Personally, I put zero thought into matching these items.

I don't think most people notice my watch, fewer notice the strap, fewer notice my belt, and I can't imagine there are many people that notice all at the same time and can spare a thought to it. And I don't personally think much about my own belt or shoes...

In my job if someone doesn't wear runners and shorts, and has any watch at all, at the end of the day he's automatically nominated for a fashion award (one of the perks of tenure, I guess)..

Having said this, I like dressing decently, but frankly I don't necessarily stick to the old belt-shoes rule, nor I ever applied it to straps (and most often I've been wearing bracelet watches recently). But I do not really mind if someone does match belt...

If I were half as stylish as you..

That Milgauss has been haunting me...

I recently spent a fair amount of money on 2 very nice watches. The one hole in my inventory is a bracelet (I have a nice Rolex Datejust in stainless, but it is 36mm, and wears a little small on my wrist). Was leaning toward an Omega Aqua Terra, but can't...

I tried one on

But didn’t buy it! But I feel like looking at watches is like looking at puppies. Once you see them, you know what’s gonna happen :/ I like it a lot! ...

I do match with some exceptions.

Red, blue, grey, orange, green straps... I do wear them with non-matching belts and shoes. The watch becomes an accent piece. But not in formal settings.

Sorry, not me in the slightest.

I couldn’t match a strap and a belt even if I knew the ‘rules’. I simply don’t care about those. I pick a watch before I pick a watch. Besides, I don’t own enough shoes and/or belts to do the matching. I do admire the people who can an do, however. ...

I know that feeling 😬

I'm the same way, much of the time. I figure out which watch I want to wear, and then my outfit is a function of that.

I hope

that my 'tongue in cheek' tone came through in my post. I totally believe people should wear and accessorize how they want. These are just little things I notice. And I didn't even consider colored straps (orange, green, blue). I certainly don't have a gr...

With fashion "rules" becoming so much more relaxed over the the years I think you can get away with most anything in any setting, albeit there are some exceptions.

A lot of once formal offices such as Wall Street have gone mostly casual dress. Tech offices are pretty much wear what you want. Any office I have worked in the last 20 years has been very casual, jeans, t-shirt and sneakers. I do however miss wearing a s...
