Universal Genève, White Shadow

Earlier this year it was announced that UG was being taken over by Breitling. This was wonderful news, UG is one the most historically important brands in the industry, their history is rich and includes such illustrious models such as the Polerouter, Compax, Aerocompax and Tricompax models.

The legend that is Gerald Genta was responsible for the Polerouter design and also a less well known model: the White Shadow
Launched in 1966, it features an integral bracelet and lets just say its design influenced another very famous elliptical design!
This was not the only item shared, the cal 2.66 movement was one of the first micro rotor movements and was in fact the slimmest automatic in the world from the mid sixties to the late seventies. Its creator Gerard Berret, would join Patek Philippe in 1968, and was the technical director behind the cal. 240

It’s even rumoured that UG took Patek to court and reached an out of court settlement.
So pre dating the Ellipse by two years this is a tour de force watch, hugely underrated, designed by Genta with what was the supreme micro rotor movement of its time, it’s a horological masterpiece.
Oh and it looks best with jeans!
