If I may expand on the theme of another recent post...
No matter what your interest, or budget, there's something for everybody. For example, this is what has passed through my hands in the last week!
Dan's Grandpa's Watch just-serviced watch dropped on the floor, panicked grandson brings it for some attention. Resolved with minimal fuss.
Dan also brought an erratic Seiko needing a movement or perhaps cannon pinion adjustment will solve the problem. A battery did not.
Friend Martin asked me to look at his non-operative Heuer stopwatch.
Steve at the Auto Museum Restoration Shop asked if I could fix the dash clock in the 1913 Cadillac. They finally got the car running, Why not the clock?
He thinks it's losing an hour or two a day.
An hour or so of tweaking and cleaning, and it's now improved to losing about 8 minutes a day. Maybe I can improve it a bit more.
In January, Cindy brought me her Grandpa's Rolex which her grandkids got ahold of. Bad news. Very bad. Still running, but badly.
This job is above my pay grade so I shopped it around, but found no one eager to take on an old Rolex bracelet. Finally my authorized Rolex pal promised he could solve the challenge if he overhauled the watch movement. That should have enabled him to get the parts, but he learned NO PARTS FOR THIS ARE AVAILABLE FROM ROLEX ANYMORE. He says repairs are now by special request only in their restoration facility in Switzerland. Boo. But somehow he got some laser-welding magic done for a pittance, then polished everything up very nicely.
Too bad she wants it back.
I'm starting to like this watch... will it improve my image? Or pull it down? I dunno ... maybe it doesn't fit with the 2CV
Finally, when the day started I was wearing the P15 Zenith Cronometro, but I seem to have set it down somewhere in the house and can't find it now.
As I said,
