Quartz vs mechanicall
Feb 20, 2020,08:31 AM
Firs tI want to make clear I never wanted or considered a quartz
That was for watches under 500 euro, right ?
But was I wrong ?
I always convinced myself that a mechanical watch can be expensive or even must be expensive because of the movement
10K - 20K - 30K for a steel mechanical watch like a Rolex, Zenith, JLC, Nautilus etc was correct
10 or 20K for a quartz was insane
Now ... knowing that a lot of 3 to 7 K watches use a Unitas or ETA that probably costs 100 euro max ...
Or what about a Rolex movement we find in the sub or GMT? anybody know who much it costs them ? I bet it's less than 400 euro
Even the movement inside a Patek Nautilus ... would it cost more than 1000 euro ? I don't know but would be surprised
So what is wrong with a quartz , and what if it's high end ? Like the Journe Elegante. the pinions, screws, wheels ets are produced in-house at FP Journe, the partly
quartz movement is mad in Switserland and it als has some nice 18K gold parts ( to cover the battery)
How much would this cost ? 300? 600? or more like 1000
So .... is it justifiable that 15K steel mechanical watch sounds OK while I (most of us) don't accept this when talking about a quartz?
(yes, still trying to convince myself a bit LOL )
