If you want a good place to look for ideas

I recommend browsing Steve Hallock's Youtube channel and website (ticktocking.com). Quickly checking it, some of my favorites in this price range:

De Bethune B28 Digitale: One of my favorite watch designs of all time. The combination of the guilloche dial with the center moonphase and blued titanium is both elegant and intriguing.
Gronefeld Remontoire: An interesting and relatively unique complication (8 second remontoire), and a style of movement finishing that you wont find from any other brand. Some awesome guilloche and/or enamel dial options with these as well.
Lange 1815 Chronograph: Similar to the datograph, but it comes in a smaller case size which I like a lot. No date function, but the movement looks just as awesome.

Is there anything in particular you are looking for or prioritizing? For example, sporty vs. dressy style, complication vs. finishing, etc.

Next acquisition- which watch?

 By: perregaux1 : March 3rd, 2019-08:52
Hi guys, I’m planning to make my most significant acquisition soon. However I’m unsure what piece to get. I plan to spend around USD40k - 50k for this piece. It will be either in steel or platinum, no gold for me. Can you pls give some suggestions? I’m 50...

You have some iconic pieces from PP, AP and Rolex!

When you say “great but less obvious” my thoughts immediately go to the independents. Have you taken a look at the Platinum FP Journe models for example? Best, NickO

1st generation Datograph in platinum (if you don’t mind buying used).

Otherwise, FP Journe has several fun pieces in that price range. If you can extend the budget a bit further, you can get into the urwerk’s and MB&F’s, which will nicely compliment your iconic collection.

Yes most definitely don’t mind buying used

A Principia or maybe a Remontoire

Totally agree with these suggestions

Or a Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro Rotor.!

If that's the budget and you are looking at the AP Perpetual per your other post then that blue dial (which is platinum) I mentioned is easily within budget.

What is the real desire though? The "must haves" from your perspective as you say have been ticked, so does that mean you can step outside that and look at some watches that are not as broadly owned? Lots of good stuff from the Independents, many examples...

You made a good point there

I saw one retailer offering that one in blue, but I feel that retailer is overpricing it, like its most other pieces on offer. Haven’t found anywhere else for sale for that one, otherwise it’s definitely could be it. Real desire is to get one that I can r...

Funny, I just made the same observation about that seller on your other post (without seeing your reply here).

There's a 1815 Chrono from a very limited run (Dresden Set, 8 pieces) available from one of the used dealers in Tokyo (you said you are heading to Tokyo soon). It's RG with a white dial but no box and a copy of the papers if I recall correctly (it was a s...

Hard to judge your taste but

I have some ideas now which directions to hunt, namely the datograph, journe, in particular.

What do you guys think about Urban Jurgensen?

 By: perregaux1 : March 3rd, 2019-20:57
Is that a good option?

should be able to find one in your budget

Lang & Heyne

Marco Lang makes beautiful German watches (Dresden), with very classic, dressy dials and a unique look and feel. They do platinum pieces in your price range for sure and you can customize if you’re willing to wait.
