My dad always told me about
Robbers chopping off hands in South Africa or India, he said a guy was stuck in traffic and had a gold sub, so he lowered the window and put his arm out to rest, some guy came and chopped of his arm 
I did hear some thing similar in the news, but it was about a lady and her diamond ring, they cut off her hand to take it.
Now if a very shifty criminal looking person asked me for the time Id pull out the cell phone, but if it was a very beautiful lady she might get the watch
Hope nothing like this happens to any of us

do you show random strangers when they ask for the time?
I was outside this watch shop when this stranger of indian descent came up to me; he pointed to my wrist and kept asking me to show him the time. strange vibes, i just told him DONT KNOW and got outta there. *took place in singapore outside sincere watche...

To be honest, I don't see why I need to show the dude my watch. If asked, I normally take a quick glance myself and tell the dude directly.
