Max Busser of MB&F Gives An Incredible Interview with CEO Confidential

Feb 23, 2021,18:08 PM

A friend of mine who knows I'm huge fan of MB&F texted me a link to this interview of Mr. Busser, the Creative Director of MB&F.

Those of you who've been to IGOTT 2, our convention many years ago, have met Mr. Busser, and have heard the extremely elegant gentleman speak.

Keep in mind, this interview is unscripted.  What you have here is a true visionary who speaks his heart without fear of what others will think.  If you know MB&F, you know this is a brand that creates unconventional timepieces without fear of what watch critics think about their pieces.

My favorite quote:
"A CEO should care more for his clients and his employees than his shareholders."

I enjoyed the interview so much that I've watched it twice!  It's a little long at 30 minutes, but boy do those 30 minutes go by quickly!

Please enjoy!

P.S.  If any of you have friends attending an MBA or DBA course, please consider sending them this link to this interview.  Regardless if they're a fan of watches or not, they will likely enjoy this interview.

P.P.S.  Many thanks to my super-helpful friend who texted me to look at this interview!  Keep those texts and emails coming!

Please feel free to comment below about the interview; whether you liked it, disliked it, want to point out something specific...  I look forward to reading your comments!

Rats! No ways to turn off those subtitles!

They should've done the whole interview in Italian! Then you would have no problem! It's really quite good.

I must admit, I watch a lot of Italian movies with English subtitles. Something about Italian films... There's so much passion and emotion in a real and raw way.

So then I thought, maybe one day, I'll just go live in Modena; a place of passion, food, wine, and fine automobiles. Then I saw the cost of an American-style flat in the town of Modena and decided I couldn't afford it. In the meanwhile, I recreate my own ...

Love it, especially the (very!) al-dente pasta....this could seriously be your first sign of becoming an Italian! :-))

Something I'm definitely also considering (though I admit the logistic are easier for me ;-) is to retire in Italy, and to do it in the not-so-distant future -- lots of things are objectively more challenging than in the US, especially if one has to work,...

Take me with you!

I'll be the agent to your girlfriend's sunglasses super-model dog. I'll get the dog modeling contracts at Luxottica sunglasses in Italy. I'm just imagining you in a cabriolet, driving down the Italian Riviera. What a nice place to be!

Looking good there! Nice shirt!

Not sure if you’ve already heard this, but we had Max on our podcast FifthWrist Radio a little while ago just as lockdown was happening. Max is a great guy and very thoughtful person in the industry.

I didn't know that! Wow!

What a great program. I had never even heard of FifthWrist Radio. Thank you for letting me know about it!

Hi Patrick

No worries. Just a bunch of enthusiasts, watchmakers and Horology nuts talking watches with collectors, people in the industry and watchmakers. ZERO commercial content or sponsorship so ALL opinions uncensored . We started in Melbourne, but now have contr...

Very cool! I listened to it and enjoyed it very much!

I'll try to listen to another one of your interviews later tonight!

Max is a legend

His story speaks for him. Opus series at Harry Winston is a milestone in independent horology, MB&F is simply the natural evolution of his growth. If there were more CEOs like him, we'd get better products.

The best watches ever done at Harry Winston were at Opus.

I'm surprised that other brands haven't copied this Opus model. You're right, he's incredible!

I will say every time I listen to MB speak I just want to go buy a watch or something from MB&F.

He doesn’t speak the same nonsense marketing waffle which we hear in every other interview with executives. And even if he does drift into some of this marketing speak it always seems to come across more genuine. One of the few industry people I have any ...

I hope you meet him in person one day...

He is a true pleasure to meet in person. Knowing your eclectic taste in watches (can I borrow your Urwerk? joking of course), you'd love Max and you'd appreciate his products!

So funny you say that!

Last time I watched one of his interviews I actually went and bought a Robotoy watch stand - such a playful piece! While his timepieces don't speak to me, I really like his other oollaborations (think Sherman/Starfleet machine). As others have said, his h...

I can't get that Robotoy stand!

I'm on the wait list for that Robotoy stand. They're sold out! Max is definitely refreshing. I always love hearing him talk! I'm glad you mentioned the democratization of the watch market. It's amazing... It's all because of social media! And now nobody b...
