Like most everyone else who posted here, I compliment you on raising a thought-provoking topic.

Rather than give you my views on the subject and my reasoning, let me give you an anecdote.
I have two daughters. One has worn a watch that was gift from a boyfriend a total of one day. The watch is still somewhere in our house, but she couldn't tell you where it is.
My younger daughter wears a watch I recently bought her-she asked to borrow one of mine-when she goes to work, teaching young, variously handicapped children. She wears the watch because she is not allowed to have her cell phone in the classroom with her. The watch lets her know when to change topics, and end class. When she comes home from work she takes the watch off and does not wear it again until the next time she goes to this school. She does not wear the watch on weekends; she does not wear the watch at another job she has where she can have her phone with her.
Not one of my daughters' friends wear a watch.
Half of my friends-my age-don't wear watches anymore. And other than my Forum friends I know no one who owns more than a watch or two.
