How many watches did you buy this year?

 By: Uncle Chico : November 26th, 2020-03:10
With lockdown, establishments closed, movement restrictions, working from home and everything else that happened this year, did it affect your buying habits or were you able to acquire the watches you wanted in spite of the difficulties?

I have been cautious this year

 By: VinnieD : November 26th, 2020-03:15
Mostly due to the stock market crash in March instead of practical difficulties to walk through shops. >> I only bought one small 'fun' watch

One, not for me!

Which is great, too.

But not as much as 2018. The year i went crazy.

Zero - have been concentrating on other things during this working from home lockdown:

 By: nomadgiles : November 26th, 2020-03:56
- getting out in the countryside on the ebike - spending more time with my daughter - buying art - cleaning up & rearanging the house - planning some big home improvevements - cooking - planning travels when able to do so Not much time to think about watc...

I bought 1 watch

 By: Weems@8 : November 26th, 2020-04:12
I bought this year a watch before the COVID19 breakout. This watch helped me staying strong during the crisis, also another watch in my collection was a fine pep up peace. You all helped me also to stay strong. My buying habits changed this year. No job, ...

Thank you very much

 By: Weems@8 : November 26th, 2020-06:19
And guess what the reason they told me was? Due the Covid19 pandemic, we must save money and you are too expensive. I am waiting for the pay off money the Dutch law demands for employers who fired by reasons of economic problems. The sour fact is, i worke...

I got 3 watches a GS, Sub and Tudor and sold 1. Hopefully if the snoopy arrives by the end of the year there will be another.

 By: Hulk : November 26th, 2020-04:27
Hopefully next year the AD will also tell me those 2 other rolex I have on order have come in! Won't hold my breath. Cheers S

With this pandemic, I learnt freedom's more important

 By: 中野れい : November 26th, 2020-04:38
than watches 😜 I haven't bought any since 2017 cause I already got my grail, however next year is my 50th b'day so plan to get something special.

😃👏

 By: 中野れい : November 26th, 2020-08:52
I will definitely ask all of your opinions!

The watch desease

 By: Weems@8 : November 26th, 2020-06:25
Call it an addiction. I have my grail. Told myself, enough is enough. But it is so harch. I want more watches. I am struggling, what in the world i need a huge watch collection for? I wear only one watch all the time. 😩

How right you are!

 By: amanico : November 26th, 2020-06:53

+1

 By: 中野れい : November 26th, 2020-08:54
but still...😅

One...DSOTM..

 By: myles721 : November 26th, 2020-04:45
It was the last time I went shopping in person last February. I had planned to purchase 2-3 more...a Ladymatic, Greayside and perhaps a Seamaster GMT PO. I purchased my DSOTM in Westchester NY but they have since shuttered that site so I may have to wait ...

Just one — a Panerai....

 By: orahu : November 26th, 2020-05:25
Now fountain pens — that is another matter — I think 5! Still waiting for a Graf von Faber Castell pen to arrive from Europe.

My policy of some in some out has not quite worked.

 By: amg786w : November 26th, 2020-05:42
Was hoping to sell a few before I acquired 4 new ones. Was easier to purchase than buy in my case

A very busy year! :-)

 By: sham1 : November 26th, 2020-05:49
Let's see - I bought a Patek 7234A, a FP Journe Elegante, a Montblanc Heritage Small Seconds, a Ming 27.01, a Nomos Ludwig 175th anniversary, a Lange 1815 ultra thin in honey gold, a Nomos Lambda 175th anniversary, a Montblanc Tachymeter Chronograph at au...

Thats one busy year my friend 😳

Really looking forward to see your nwa,s next year 🤗

I think if I had to choose

 By: sham1 : November 26th, 2020-15:22
the stand out purchases for me this year were the A Lange and Sohne 1815 ultra thin honey gold which was difficult for me to source as I had to approach the boutiques in Kuala Lumpur, London, Paris and Singapore before securing a piece in Singapore, and t...

Great choices my friend .

That ALS looks so beautiful, i have seen similar one a while ago from a fellow member (200th edition) fantastic watch .

The GO is superb

 By: rnaden : November 28th, 2020-03:08
Saw it in the metal a week ago - very impressed. I walked home with a BB58 instead as I still need keep discipline on my consolidation efforts

Well done Richard on securing the BB58!

 By: sham1 : November 28th, 2020-06:47
I tried it on last year but the watch refused to talk to me! My latest consolidation after something that occurred today is reduce my collection to 5 watches or fewer!!

Very interesting....

 By: rnaden : November 28th, 2020-07:07
That’s going to be a tough decision as you have some really very nice pieces in your collection

Actually it was not too tough a decision Richard

 By: sham1 : November 28th, 2020-19:30
either that or I am just plain ruthless!! I shall keep the Glashutte Original, Piece unique Grossmann, the Lang & Heyne Friedrich III and the Patek 7200R. More than enough to keep me happy!

I like ruthless!

 By: rnaden : November 29th, 2020-19:24
That's a solid collection...and yes, from what you're letting go, ruthless is definitely up there in describing the decision!

I blame it on the Glshutte Original! :-)

 By: sham1 : November 30th, 2020-03:00
I have been wearing it for 22 consecutive days and have noticed there is little need for too many watches. So I might quietly retire from this passion and enjoy my handful of watches.

Says a lot for GO

 By: rnaden : November 30th, 2020-19:00
To have a watch bring that level of satisfaction is not easy for us.

And the best part is that

 By: sham1 : November 30th, 2020-22:40
it is my cheapest watch by far!!!

Bought 4, sold 2. It may not seems a lot, but certainly much busier than ever.

I’ve been consolidating my collection a lot. Sold off all my vintage Rolex, as most of them had got to a price point where I didn’t think of them as ‘every day’ watches anymore, and since having kids I’ve been more into the idea of buying watches that I c...

 By: K-Lo : November 26th, 2020-07:44
Watch funds super low, don’t see myself getting anything else unless I sells some pieces on the selling block.

Sold four. Bought three.

 By: BigAppleBill : November 26th, 2020-08:00
Planning to sell some others that I haven’t been wearing.

Zero for me. I've skipped on visiting watch shops in person this year.

 By: Overwound : November 26th, 2020-08:08
Instead, I enjoy the wonderful selections shared here online. The eye candy offered on this site is an excellent alternative that doesn't replace in-person viewing but is the next best thing. Much safer at the moment and better camaraderie as well. Obstac...

And then I got them serviced by mail. Result: after much back-and-forth mailing, one runs poorly, the other not at all. That's where the matter rests, as I am not willing to mail them back and forth any more. Discouraging. I could probably get a better re...

3 in and 1 out.

In other words too many in 😌

4: 1 lucky find, 1 impulsive, and 2 emotional.

 By: AlexSunrise : November 26th, 2020-09:34
Sold 1, and I’m in the process of letting go of 1 or 2 more in my quest for simplification. This Caravelle was the impulsive buy. Found it on eBay and I couldn’t resist the charm. This was my lucky find back in Feb. Had to sell my 5513 in order to fund it...

Wow, this 1675 mini dial, amigo!!! Great catch!

... but the year is not over yet! - there are two auctions in which I may bid. Put one watch on the block but it has not sold yet. Alltogether a typical year for me without a lot of influcence from the pandemic, since my buying and selling has slowed down...

Andreas, what is your

 By: MTR : November 28th, 2020-05:04
personal experience with online auctions? I often read a claimer that the quality and functionality of the offered watches are not guaranteed. Best Thomas

so far my experience has been good

 By: donizetti : November 28th, 2020-07:40
although I am lucky to have an important watch auction house in the city where I work so I can go and have a look before. My experience with Sotheby's has also been good. Of course, YMMV! Best Andreas

Sold 10, bought 3, with one more expected to be delivered before the end of the year

 By: rnaden : November 28th, 2020-03:06
Was working on my consolidation effort....

A very wise masterplan.

 By: MTR : November 28th, 2020-05:07
I did the same. You just have to be careful not to accidentally sell the "wrong" watch every now and then. “Wrong” in this case means that you are going to regret the sale afterwards. Best Thomas

Wise words...

 By: rnaden : November 28th, 2020-07:08
...the inevitable mistakes every now and then has resulted in me paying double for the same watch some years down the road. Am a lot more careful now

I was at zero until...

 By: Grail-Watch : December 5th, 2020-06:28
...last week! Then the auction bug bit me and I couldn’t resist a Christiaan van der Klaauw Satellite and an incredibly rare IWC Delirium!

Wise counsel requested:

Please could those that sold this year advise (by DM if preferred) how you did so. Many thanks R
