I don't believe we've ever had a restriction on a seller wearing a watch listed for sale . . .

Aug 26, 2019,07:49 AM

. . . and it would be a stretch to say doing so would be unethical.  Hazardous, maybe, but unethical?  No, we're not that straight-laced.

;-)

What this community has always found repugnant is the practice of posting a watch on a discussion forum, and then shortly afterwards posting it for sale on CM.  That's where 'pump and dump' comes into play.

There will always be exceptions, and the rule isn't strictly enforced.  It is, however, at a minimum a breach of decorum to parlay the visibility granted by the discussion forums.  This sort of behavior is tolerated, if not common, on other sites, but frowned upon here.

Cordially,

Art

A reminder regarding forum ethics and comportment . . .

. . . from a moderator. It is never acceptable to post a watch in a discussion forum, then shortly afterwards in Collectors Market. Our discussion forums are meant to facilitate conversation, not to promote commercial activity. Furthermore, posting photos...

Thank you Dr. No! [nt]

They call you Dr. No for a reason!

I spotted this too and appreciate you reminding us all.

I was alerted to this situation by a long-term community member . . .

. . . for which he has my appreciation. Art

I completely agree...

The collectors market should not be abused in this way.

The general rule used to be a three month separation between posting on a discussion forum . . .

. . . and Collectors Market. I don't think any moderator will be able to enforce what is essentially an unwritten rule, but two days separating discussion forum and CM posting is clearly contrary to the spirit of this site. Art

Thanks! [nt]

I’m with you all the way. One of the reasons I appreciate this forum so very much (it’s the only social media forum I’m active on because I feel protected and thus free) is the fact that the discussions are genuine and show either respect for the others o...

Thanks, Jurry. I'm a contributor on two other forums, but . . .

Thank you for looking out for us.

Is one of them a Newspaper Association sponsored forum?

I know you’re on their books as you are single-handedly keeping the newspaper industry afloat. 😝

Ummm . . . no, but . . .

. . . I'm curious as to how you knew I still read the LA Times print edition.

You know there are those who read the LA Times and those who merely say they read the LA Times

To prove it, I’m going to need a photo of the latest print copy (not the online version) set to page seven with the fifth word of the third paragraph in the second column highlighted. Include an Omega watch in the picture for bonus points. 😀

Will yesterday's paper . . .

What looks obvious to many sometimes need to be reminded to some others... and furthermore it goes without saying but it is even better when it is clearly said Mike

I enjoy the refreshing noncommercial nature of this forum. It's a rarity. Kind regards, Dan

Thanks Art but I do have a Q. While I agree its not ethical to post CM listing and keep wearing the watch as the condition may materially change from the listed pics. But thats the only....

. . . on CM sales. It's really more for winnowing out an overgrown collection, or moving on watches that no longer hold our interest. Maybe the pro sellers make a few bucks, but even then, it's a tough way to make a living . . .

Another reason not to sell. 😁 [nt]
