Horological Meandering

It's always been one of my dreams to compare the VC CDV directly to the Lange 1815 Chronograph. I was lucky enough to have a friend who let me borrow theirs to snap some photos and wanted to share a few shots with this community. While they're both 2 of t...  

1815 wins by default because of the movement, but the CDV wears better on me for sure.

I vote for the Lange. The 1815 Chronograph is simply the top of its class from both and back.

Despite loving both of them, I would take the VC in a heartbeat . What can I say, I am simply partial to VC and JLC above all .... Thank you for sharing these here with us! Cheers, Filip

Both were priced similarly (I don’t know if it’s still the case) and I wanted to be sure which I preferred. And, despite the beauty of the 1815 caliber, the CdV won: it felt so much more dynamic and lively to me. Best.

I was pretty sure I was going to get the 1815 chronograph, as it is so stunning. Unfortunately, when I tried it it didn’t really fit my wrist comfortably. I tried the CdV the very same day and everything about felt perfect, so that’s what I ended up getti... 

The 1815 movement and dual are spectacular and as a fan of the flyback complication it is very attractive, yet visually I find myself pulled more towards the VC. I tried the steel CDV once and it was lovely on the wrist, if a bit small.

The sub register chrono hand would drive me crazy!!! What is the logic behind breaking that symmetry??? I’m partial to its layout otherwise.

For me CDV has better size and lugs, while everything else (movement, dial overall, dial markers, hands...) I prefer in Lange. My own solution to that dilemma? Dato 1st gen.

All of this is of course just down to personal taste and preference, but the lugs the pushers and lastly the dial layout and markers all make it the best choice for me. Sorry and I know it's very controversial and I really don't want to upset anyone but A... 

The 1815 is ok but for me the CDV is the overall winner. I have it in platinum and it is my favorite chrono period.

I prefer the symmetry of the CDV too. I was always bothered by the drop in the register on the Langes to the 4 8 position from the 3 9 position.

Impossible to choose between them. Thus you must own both, or neither. Sadly I own neither!

Now the one that tops them both(in my books), it’s the PP 5170G. Imagine owning all three…?

While both movements are nice in their own right, the dials are to austere maybe even underwhelming , however on the PAtek the dial is complex with the beautiful hand polished Breguet numerals and the sensual printing and elaborate numerals. At this level...

This Vc is perfect in platinum with those blue accents and that strap. I would take the vc here overall.

But then I must buy either 5070 or Dato Gen 1 to satisfy my feeling.

It’s the VC for me solely based on the drooping sub registers on the ALS. I like the balanced dial on the VC better. Just my personal opinion 👍. Thanks for posting.

...and yes, I have seen it and worn it. To me, the details are what make the watch, so the actual references matter a lot when comparing...

VC hands down.
