Gents the decision has been made

Aug 17, 2018,23:52 PM

Whenever a model of any brand becomes status symbol it pushes me away
Happened with the offshore
Happened with RM
and now with my Nautilus
I decided to part ways with it
And getting these instead

Already put a deposit on the Journe

Requested my AD to get me one (gave me a great discount too)

Let the others show off there status watches while I quietly enjoy these beauties in discreetness hehehe

Of course I’m not ranting or have anything against buying watches as status symbol of wealth or whatever reason to each his own and I do respect that

But for me when some models become trend it’s a very bad sign for me
Where I go or travel all I see are Nautiluses RMs and Offshores and Royaloaks and of course the prime Rolexes you know the usual suspects
So I tend to take a different path away from all that hustle and bustle

The CENTIGRAPHE has been on my mind for a very very long time and I even posted a while back whether to get a CENTIGRAPHE or an URWERK
I guess I’m getting both at the end

URWERK is a different kind of richard mille but more niche
The Journe about same age as both RM and URWERK but more purist more a collector watch also niche

And as for the FREAK OUT we got to admit it’s BADA$$ as hell and the Freak was a dream watch too but waited for just the right model and time of course

The next couple of months should be very interesting and very exciting

If I may ask

 By: Gelato Monster : August 18th, 2018-02:36
Why Centigraphe? What about Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante?

Great question

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : August 18th, 2018-03:15
Yes the monopusher split seconds is amazing and I did think about it in fact I was think of doing a one to one shift But still the CENTIGRAPHE was the journe that I truly fell in love with since a looooong time and it had been way up on my list Plus the t...

OK.

I guess the most beautiful 1/100s dance is by Centigraphe

Congratulations Mohannad for the Journe...

Purely out of curiosity...what car do you drive?

Thanks Arie , I drive an Aston Martin Rapid [nt]

Very beautiful car! (love the sound)

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : August 18th, 2018-00:51
But wouldn’t you consider that a status symbol also? ;-) ;-)

Yes and no

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : August 18th, 2018-00:59
I’m the kind of guy that doesn’t change cars often they tend to stay with me for 10+ years (I still have my 2003 SL) So I wanted a car that can stand the test of time design wise And AMs are of a few brands that actually have that and age well So my drive...

Excellent choices.

Especially love the Freak Out. I soooo desperately want one! Rapide is a good choice. On the under-the-radar side of fancy Got an S6 Avant and SQ7 for the same reason. Both nicely discounted, which helped in the buying of 2! Subtle, good quality, comforta...

Honestly I believe the CENTIGRAPHE is a very much better watch than the 5980 It has something about it and the 1/100 second counter is a mesmerizing event The Freak well it’s the Freak

Well done on your purchases!

I believe in one being their own person so forget about what the norm is - making yourself happy should always be the norm!!!

I really like that thought a lot ! respect !!! Journe is nice but I would go for their more classic watches, the sportswatch is not my cup of tea The tourbillon they make is imo the most beatifull tourbillon on the market.

I’m always a sporty Desgin person

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : August 18th, 2018-01:57
I don’t have a single classic watch or classic looking or dressy in my collection

Sounds like a gap to fill 😀 [nt]

.. Especially when we are talking about status symbols.. To me IMHO anything that is more expensive than it is necessary is a status symbol. The watch I find most understated is my rolex dd2 platinum... Ppl who are chasing the status symbol don’t give rol...

Excellent choices

Both r sublime beauties

Congtatulations on your choices, always a good feeling to come to a decision and part with the old to be free to move forward. I am very impressed with the Journe, spectacular

 By: Ron_W : August 18th, 2018-05:42
set of features. None of my watches have ever made it to mainstream or status, so now i know i dont have to worry about it as that is a good thing yes ? ;-)) !

Well, I would never buy a watch because it is a status symbol BUT

 By: Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise : August 18th, 2018-06:23
I would also never sell a watch, because it is.. I can understand and accept your decision because of horological and financial aspect: the Journe has much more horological content and you win a lot of money selling the Nautilus, you will get a better wat...

Then it must be

When u go to Dubai, paris, Monaco , st tropez, london ,LA, Marbella, Singapore, NY and here in riyadh You will have a very great chance to at least see one model of these brands it’s guaranteed So I choose to take a different path a path driven for passio...

An inverse snobbery effect

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 19th, 2018-03:12
Yes, to my mind, I now see a lot of Nautilus around. Once, it was a watch I rarely saw in public. In London, recently, I saw two in Selfridges and then another in another department store. It is beginning to have a similar cache to it as Burberry.

stop checking other ppl s wrist 😂

 By: Passionata_george : August 19th, 2018-12:42
But seriously it s bit frustrating that a couple of designs became the mainstream but whom to blame , too much moneney floats around,i remember when i got to the warch game the 5513 was the ultimate grail (since noone paid ,4grand for a 5512;-) ) , and to...

My beloved uncle sent me a pic about his daughter and the future son in law ,my comment was “He s an okay looking chap but i hope will get a proper watch soon “

Congrats!

Can’t go wrong with a Journe! I’m a big fan of the brand. Just got my first Journe a couple week ago. Enjoy!

Congratulations!

The Journe is a fantastic piece and very comfortable to wear.

Thanks a lot watchman [nt]

I think your two choices here are superb, I'm a closet Centigraphe Sport fan myself!

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 18th, 2018-10:51
And the Freak, I have no words, just a great piece. I don't know however if I support the view of ditching the popular pieces. I totally understand what you are saying, Nautilus, RO and every sports Rolex are (in certain circles) very common. This is true...

Yes my 15202 isn’t to be sold ever

. . . . Looks like there's room for #5 and maybe another. In the event you get cut off at #6 - and I mean your watch budget, Mo! - you might consider vintage. Servicing your Journe will set you back about as much as one of these . . . . . . will set you b...

I really appreciate collectors like you!

 By: datograph : August 18th, 2018-10:54
Since most watch forums are all about Daytona, Royal Oak and Nautilus, collectors like you acting more and more in the shadows but if you can spot one, it gives such fresh air!

An FPJ is always a private treasure, wearing one is a treat.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : August 18th, 2018-11:42
Although the RO with custom rotor and names of your sons (?) on the back is too precious for words.

Agree my friend

The names of my two boys and two girls For my fifth princess I got an URWERK

Very interesting selections.

 By: M4 : August 19th, 2018-06:41
Enjoy them! They are unique, exquisite, and under-the-radar watches. M4

Really like your thinking

 By: Mr.Gatsby : August 19th, 2018-09:26
Great watch collecting philosophy you have there. All three are great choices.

I have the same FPJ CTS as yours.

 By: chrono.logy : August 20th, 2018-09:15
Bought it a few months back and it has now become my daily watch. Apart from the looks and movement, it is just so light and the titanium very resistant to scratch. Still looks like new even after months of daily wear. Perfect for an active person like me...

Throughly

URWERK was probably one of my best watch purchase decisions I’ve ever made
