Cheap thrills - Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical

Dec 13, 2018,16:55 PM

I recently picked up a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical as a fun weekend watch.  I'm actually really enjoying it, quite a cool watch for not a lot of money.

Good news for me. Don't have to break the bank. On the other end, seikos r increasing prices. So this will be interesting to see

i was thinking of picking one up myself

Love the no-date, manual-wind, small form factor design. I think servicing the watch costs like 30% of the retail price, but should last you many, many years before needing to go in.

It's the 'Wesley' from Bas and Lokes

The only thing I customized was the length as I don't like having to tuck in the tail of a NATO strap.

Thanks! So you shortened the long end a bit?

It's the short end that determines fit on the wrist, right? My wrist is about 6.8" so I'd order a 125/75 but maybe shorten the 125 a little if I want less tail? Advice appreciated ;-)

It's a one-piece NATO

The standard length is 11" but I had them make it 10" instead. The end of the strap sticks out of the fixed keeper by about 1/4" on my 7" wrist, and the buckle is in the second last hole. Fits me very well and it's very comfortable.

Got it, thanks

Sizing is important on these, of course, since there are no returns -- custom, made to order. Really nice look and may contact them for something similar that would work beautifully on my Mark XVI or Stowa Flieger.

The lugs are fairly long so it wears nicely for a 38mm

A year or two ago I would have never considered a 38mm watch for my flat 7" wrist. But since that time I purchased an IWC Mk. XV which I love and that seems to have opened the door to smaller watches. I still love my 44mm and 47mm Panerais and other large...

That's great to hear

But one thing is for sure, I would have to try it first. Thanks for the insights

Nice everything!

Excellent value for money and is a good wearable size too at 38mm. I also like the matt finished case.

I really like the case finish too

Really a lot to like in this watch. Cool design, no date, manual wind and, as you say, a great value too. Given that it seems to be sold out often at many ADs, it appears that Hamilton has a winner on it's hands.

Agreed!!

No date was most important in my opinion. Too many nice looking watches are ruined by the date, Rolex included!!

Mine came on the OEM khaki canvas NATO with brown leather trim too

Not a bad strap, but I went with a full leather NATO as I preferred that look.

Same here

A really thoughtful reissue

Very nice & as you say there's a lot of watch for the price
