CALL 4 OPINION - JLC vs GP vs Zenith

Jun 02, 2016,13:23 PM

Dear PuristS,

If you would be looking for a world timer but with a touch of more; do you sometimes think of the following examples?

a) Jaeger-LeCoultre  -  Master Compressor W-Alarm 46 Valentino Rossi
b) Girard Perregaux  -  ww.tc Financial
c) Zenith  - Doublematic

All have more complications than just a date and a city ring, and I wonder how your podium (rank 1, 2, 3) would look like.

c) Zenith comes most complicated with chronograph, alarm and big date

b) Girard Perregaux  as the panda with chronograph and in the smallest size in this trio

a) JLC, yellow, 46, alarm as well and a strong compressor casing.

I'd appreciate your thoughts and opinion on this, and am naturally open to all highlights and lowlights that come to your minds.

Thanks and kind regards,
kolosstt

Zenith best

Than GP JLC last Best D

My choice would either be the Zenith or the JLC...

both with an alarm (very useful for travelling), but come in completely different design languages. The Zenith has the added chronograph and is a real bang for the buck. Best, Magnus

I love Rossi and JLC

So I have a huge sweet-spot for the JLC. But it is certainly loud! These are hugely subjective and I am even arguing with myself on them but: Overall wearability (matching to clothes and occasions) I would go with: 1: GP 2: Zenith 3: JLC Movement: 1: Zeni...

Thanks for the detailed feedback Ryan!

Loud is not always bad and I just wonder how much I am appealed by the fact that it is connected to Rossi. What would you do with it if Rossi is no longer racing? BR, Kolosstt

You have to assume..

 By: iamcalledryan : June 3rd, 2016-09:19
that Rossi will retire while you are still enjoying the watch, and that if you sell it on, it will be once Rossi has left MotoGP. But a) Rossi is a legend of the highest order and so his importance and relative collectability is like having a Schumacher A...

they're all quite different

what are you going for? sport? then jlc. and i have an extreme world chrono: they are great. if you're going for reserved and elegant: gp hands down. classic style with beautiful proportions. the zenith just doesn't come together for me. looks like a blob...

Three big watches....

Personally I am a BIG fan of JLC Memovox - but that model is one of the few modern Memovox I never went for due to its size and comfort... The Zenith doesn't do it for me, I find the dial unbalanced... This version of the Traveller is very high up on my ...

The Zenith is the most complete. BUT...

I would go for the GP. It has more charm. Best, Nicolas

I like Nico's reasoning here...

For me, I always liked the Zenith, but it's a little too "Kitchen-Sink" for me with all the oddly arranged elements and numerous crowns living on the case... though it is a lot of complication for the $$$. Love the LOUD and LONG school bell alarm of the J...

Yes, that's it. [nt]

I'm biased

 By: Gavin1 : June 2nd, 2016-14:41
as I own one, but the GP. The JLC and Zenith just look oversized for my tastes. The GP sits lovely on the wrist, is functional and has the added benefit of being as comfortable as a casual watch as it does formally. ...

+1 [nt]

As much as I typically love everything JLC, I would pick the GP in this case

 By: vitalsigns : June 2nd, 2016-14:50
More reasonable size, and overall a more wearable presentation The Zenith is a mess from a design perspective IMO

Thanks for all the feedback so far. - Really great!

Hoping for more, I send my best regards, Kolosstt

I trend toward the GP

 By: rnaden : June 2nd, 2016-20:49
I think the dial is more balanced and coherent. Also I like the two crowns and the size is something that works better in most situations.

Thanks for your opinion Richard: Would you say the same with another GP...

 By: kolosstt : June 3rd, 2016-01:05
... like this one from Luis6? Regards, kolosstt ...

Can't think of a reason not to....

 By: rnaden : June 3rd, 2016-02:35
Except that maybe the red and black can make it slant more toward casual.

For me, it would depend on the alarm sound ...

 By: Marcus Hanke : June 3rd, 2016-10:35
... if I would either opt for the Zenith or the JLC. The latter, however, definitely not in this design and colour scheme - reminds me of a kid's sportsshoe ... Marcus

Weren't there only kids shoes?

 By: kolosstt : June 4th, 2016-23:31
Hello Marcus, Thanks for the feedback. I think all W-Alarm came colourful; blue, red yellow. Which one would be your favorite? Guessing blue? BR, Kolosstt

Neither of them, I fear ....

 By: Marcus Hanke : June 5th, 2016-23:52
... since I am a big fan of the Master Memovox, which is a wonderfully made and designed alarm watch. Marcus

Zenith for me

 By: andrevmsilva : June 3rd, 2016-12:01
I think this is a beautiful watch, a real bang for the buck. Second the GP, I like it been smaller. Third JLC, i dont like the color scheme André

All great watches.... with different tastes...

 By: andrewluff : June 3rd, 2016-13:38
My personal 1, 2, 3 would be Zenith, GP and the JLC. I love the balance of the Zenith, its one great looking watch indeed and suits my taste in watches. Cheers Andrew

hahaha!

Obviously Magnus if one had included that 'special' colour it would have been number 1 on the list, the others would have simply been blown out of the water. Cheers Andrew
