Burdick's has been my go-to place for hot chocolate (winter) and iced chocolate (summer) for decades...

Their Boston store is located in what is increasingly becoming "watch central"! It's a frequent destination when visiting the stores.

Used to live there

The white building behind the Stsrbucks used to be an NYU dorm. We used to wait for the bus to campus right in front of that clock. So strange to see it admired.
Very cool indeed!

It'd be "too cool for school" for me. I'm trying to make a pun, since the building and the clock are owned by NYU.
Hmm... If I lived in Manhattan, I'd like the idea of living downtown!
By: patrick_y : March 4th, 2022-01:41
Downtown is so quiet at night! It's busy in the morning as people go to their offices (well, not anymore due to COVID), but it's very quiet at night! Might be a good place to live in my eyes. I didn't eat very much in Downtown. I was forced to go on a die...
Funny and educational at the same time.

I haven't seen anything like this one before, but I sure did indulge in some one-off public space clock designs over the years. I'll make sure to share some pictures of L.A. area public clocks when I get the opportunity! Cheers, Filip
Perfecto!

Do you like fountain pens?
By: patrick_y : March 4th, 2022-17:11
There's a store in the downtown region called "Fountain Pen Hospital" that was special. A lot of other things too, just depends on what you like!
Hmm...

Still lots to see down there! If you're into architecture (some really nice buildings, the Frank Gehry apartment tower is nice), old office buildings (City Hall Administration buildings), museums, watch stores, nice restaurants, lots to do in NYC. The dec...
I concur!

It's ok! You can always visit again!
By: patrick_y : March 5th, 2022-17:51
That means you were likely a diligent student. Never venturing out, and always enamored in your studies! Am I right?
Not a surprise to me!

It's easy to identify that you are a learned man just from your interactions on this site. Therefore, I'm not surprised you graduated with honors! Not to mention you are a man with exquisite taste! And I'm not even being diplomatic about that!

Next time I am in California, we must meet up so I can repay these kind compliments over drinks or a meal !
You can't have just one dog there, gotta have two
By: CR : March 7th, 2022-12:45
The thing to get is the 2 dogs + a drink (both w/sauerkraut, 1 w/ketchup, 1/mustard, and the classic papaya for the drink). It's a package deal. The chocolate place I like is Laderach, I think on Lexington around 58th St. I get several little pieces of ch...
Ahh! Yes, I've been to the Laderach on Lexington and 58th.
By: patrick_y : March 7th, 2022-17:28
The Laderach on Lexington and 58th is too expensive for me unfortunately. In Geneva, it's around 80 Francs per kilogram. In most of Europe it's only 70 Euros per kilogram. Thus, it's actually cheaper to buy Laderach in a city like Vienna or Berlin than in...
The high price is the only thing that allows me to control my intake! :)
By: CR : March 8th, 2022-14:38
I'd be in trouble if it were cheaper. I was at my local Laderach with a friend (fellow collector on this forum) a few days ago, and he got 1/4 pound for something like $14-15 USD. If you want to try some fun chocolate treats, visit the website for bonbonb...
Try LA Burdicks
By: patrick_y : March 8th, 2022-17:52
Unfortunately Burdicks, which is located in Boston, is very expensive. Around $80 a pound! That's about double Laderach's price in Europe, as it's around 70 Euros a kilogram!
Ahh. I make my own hot chocolate!
By: patrick_y : March 8th, 2022-20:35
So easy! Just put in semi-sweet 51% cacao to 60% cacao chocolate chips into a saucepan. Then milk. Heat. Stir or whisk until the chocolate is dissolved in. So good.
+1! (nt)
