It is not a bad thing to be in the minority.

I do agree with your analysis in general. Personally however I have been hoping for a long time (and wondering why) that AP would start another line next to the Royal Oak and Millenary that would actually be attractive. In this case, pun intended, they succeeded with the case design. But the dials are simply boring and/or weak designs (partly rip offs).

Piece of advice from me to AP: call Kari Voutilainen and ask him for a cool dial. They would have a winner if they did.

Oh...and change that name. 11:59....to me it is very negative. lol their time is up and nothing can save the day anymore.

Another similarity?

Ok maybe it is only the subdial rings, but it did remind of of the Timewalker. ...

lack of design

I'm not sure what happened to AP when were designing this new series, but it seems they may have had a really tiny R&D budget. The case is interesting with mid-case reminding the wearer of the Royal Oak. Lack of strong AP heritage design with the dial...

I guess AP is still star struck by Genta’s Royal Oak design.

They might as well stop producing anything else imo.

That's funny because I have the timewalker and that's exactly the first thought that came to my mind.

Tastes are a matter of choice and cannot be discussed but I must say I m a bit disappointed by all the new AP released. To be fair to AP i think there s a noticeable drop in watch esthetics across the spectrum of watch brands.

You got a good point

Definitely similarity there. Very disappointed in AP Guess it will continue to be a RO brand.

No doubt [nt]

Gold subdial rings aren't unique to just a few, nor are they new

Here's my IWC Porsche Design from the late 90's And it looks like gold rings on this AP RO too! The picture's from 2003. Cazalea ...

Nevertheless these ‘new’ designs have a lot of similarities with other watches. And imo AP should have done a better, more original job. Especially when you tell everybody to “first master the rules...”. Ah well....one thing is for sure if you like one of...

This year will be written as one of if not worst in long history

They should buy Ming and label it AP

;-)

Their design team has outgunned AP

Can’t argue there

Not to talk about PR team [nt]

I see I am not the only one who found some similarities between the new Models and Porsche Design: I found the new models dull, without souls and total lack of history! Absolut no-go for me! ...

I actually like it

Glad AP has done something other than just royal Oak re-colours. Can't wait to see more live pics of this and in the metal once it hits the boutiques.

Horrible design in my opinion

The case is decent but the rest is really bad

+1. And that date placement is dreadful on top of the awful design.

I wouldn’t take one for free. Sorry if I’m being too harsh.

As the saying goes... beauty is only skin (or dial) deep

but it does make a huge huge different... Let’s hope that AP will get the aesthetics corrected eventually. For now, I shall only admire the new movements

My honest opinion; everyone's so used to decades of RO variants that anything AP comes up with that doesn't reflect what I would consider the company's 'Royal Oak Tunnel Vision'...

...just isn't good enough. AP has created a monster, albeit a very likable and profitable one. But first a little personal history. When I started collecting back in the '80s, my favorite brand was AP. But not because of the RO. I appreciated the company'...

I look at the dial design differently. What you see as 'boring' and 'weak' I see as 'classic' and 'vintage', which falls in line with my preference for vintage watches.

In new watches, I like designs that combine some vintage aspects but add a modern twist. The twist being the case design of the new line, which in my eyes is a modernized take on a traditional look. But I agree with your KV dial comment. Of course I'd lik...

And you are right about seeing it live. That can make a difference indeed.
