**Much appreciated

My original inquiry has to do more with the delicate movements found in these watches versus cosmetic wear and tear. I do recall reading multiple posts over the years from those who own, say, a 15202, and mention that the thin movement is perhaps not the best match for that particular type of everyday wearer... Nonetheless, the consensus I've come away with is that JLC indeed seems to make uber durable, upper-echelon movements and finishing without the super car maintenance price tag of a super car.

I'd say my budget would be around $10k-$15k. Completely agree about the value preservation that a Patek offers, but I'm trying to avoid tying-up $20k+ for so many years. Honestly, I'm a sucker for Lange, so I'll probably need to consider the Saxonia line as well.

I really gravitate toward cases that have a bit of "chunk" to them (8-10 mm thickness), so this is one characteristic that has generally prevented me from a hard pursuit of a "thin" dress watch. I do want to know that there is actually something on my wrist!

Advice

I am considering to acquire my first higher-end piece (relatively-speaking) and would appreciate input from others in terms of their pros & cons of daily life with these much more delicate, dressier models. I'm referring to the thinner (more fragile) ...

The only thing I really try to be cognizant of is sticking my non-dominant hand in tight spaces (mailbox, middle shelf in a grocery store, etc.).

Otherwise, I don't really think about it. Every watch will get scratches, especially a precious metal piece. The first scratch hurts the most. But it will happen if you wear your watch. I don't really think about it. Just wear and enjoy it!

Keep JLC in mind as well...

I've owned a few different "nice" JLC watches through the years and never had any issues with daily wear. The Master Ultra-Thin line is spectacular. The Master Control line is not as "dressy" but just as beautiful.

+1 on JLC

I have a JLC MUT Perpetual that is a great for daily wear around the office. Some other pieces that come to mind would be the Breguet 7147, FPJ CB would tick the boxes however I suspect demand is still very high, ALS 1815 series as well. If you can visit ...

+ 2 on the MUT.

I generally only wear dress watches

and find them robust for daily wear. Of course, I have never worn a watch while swimming or while playing squash but watches are so well made these days that the rigours of most activities would not affect their durability or time keeping. I noticed you m...

Could you tell us the price range?

Since thin is your objective may I presume time only?

Try, try, try

If you stick to established quality brands, there is no wrong choice. What I have found is that on picture and on the wrist are two very different things. So my best advice is to try as many as possible, even the ones that did not fully convince on a phot...

Daily Wear

Jaeger LeCoultre in their paperwork that accompanies the kit suggests; “ We recommend that you wear your watch every day, so that the movements of your wrist can wind your watch progressively as you go about your activities.” Thanks JLC, I will attempt to...

Always owned two different watches; a daily beater and a dress up watch.

Have enjoyed Pateks, Vacherons and an ALS 1815 for my dress up watch. Of the three I'd strongly recommend an ALS 1815. IMHO their finish is the best for the bucks

...I don't recall ever reading (over 20 years) a post on a forum about someone's watch (sports or dress) breaking during regular activities. Maybe folks don't post these or I missed them? I've read posts about 'watch running fast', or 'stem fell out' or '...

An 1815 would be perfect

A.Lange&Sohne 1815 in RG will be absolutely perfect. Nicely hand-finished and a great caliber. Elegant in every way.
