I want a gold watch, but a gold watch with special movement or from a high horology such as the "Holy Trinity " and even Grand seiko and rolex, is getting ridiculously expensive. So I have contemplated to buy gold watch from lower tier of brand such a Frederique Constant, TAG Heuer, Baume mercier, Hamilton, Oris, etc...but the design and movement is just un-inspiring , so I did not pull the trigger.
Luckily I had fund to purchase a gold Tank Louis Cartier few years ago, and is quite worthy because its a manual wind Cartier in-house (albeit it is derived from Piaget). Until now, it is the only gold watch in my collection.
To make things more difficult, all brand seems to charge more cost of service for precious material, even if the movement is exactly the same as their SS siblings. Personally I don't think any significant reason why they do so, other than a chance to grab more money from customers.
