No regrets!

Nowadays when I buy a watch, the four main criteria are the dial, customer service, reiliability and accuracy in that order.  The quality of the movement and the brand pale into insignificance once the watch is accurate and reliable.  Two examples of this would be the Glashutte Original Senator Excellence and my Seiko Presage which keep excellent time and are excellent daily watches. So I asked myself questions like are my Patek Travel Time 7234A or weekly calendar 5122A really worth so many times more than my Senator Excellence and Presage?  And the answer for me anyway was an absolute no. It did help though when the 5122A stopped working and had to be returned to Geneva hence failing the reliability test.  Perhaps 5 hands from the centre was not such a good idea after all! :=-)

Please don't get me wrong - Patek is a great brand but there are also many other great brands out there without Patek's history.

A massive surprise!

Madonna and I coincidentally share the same birthday in August but today I received an unexpected early birthday present from a fellow purist. I had seen his Casio G Shock Oak a few weeks ago and was highly impressed by its lightness, wearability and stea...

that’s cool G-Shock…trust it is thinner too !

Good one to wear during sports…wise choice Sham.

Thanks Mahesh but

 By: sham1 : July 31st, 2021-16:12
as it is a gift, the credit should go entirely to our fellow purist in KL. And as summer here lasts 12 months, you are right in saying that it is a cool watch to wear. Mahesh, I am even tempted to sleep with it on tonight because it is ultra light and com...

Thank you for the wshes!

Glad to know that I am in good company with the other Casio Oak owners!

Right👊👍

I think as usual

I have arrived late to the party as I had not realised the existence of this model until a few weeks ago. And yes the fellow purist is a lovely chap notwithstanding the gift

Nice story and happy birthday...🎂🍾🥂

...

Wow! Yours is gorgeous too!!

Thank you for the good wishes.

What a fun watch indeed!

Added one as well ...

Very nice!

I had no idea that the Casio Oak was so popular. OK, to be honest I did not even know this watch existed until a months ago

I think we all have our vices. I bought mine shortly after the 2020 pandemic and needed something that was inexpensive, light, tough, and stylish.

When the future is uncertain or you’re stuck on a deserted island priorities change. 😆 ...

Yours has the more legible white markers!

 By: sham1 : August 8th, 2021-13:18
Very nice and thank you for sharing.

Agreed but a lot of this is due to the creative genius

 By: sham1 : August 9th, 2021-00:34
of the late Gerald Genta who had designed both the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. To be honest, I would have thought that both Patek and Audemars would have had their designs copyrighted to avoid copycats but lucky for Piaget and Casio, they did not Please c...

I believe you are correct to a point.

I recall Jean-Claude’s interview (Talking Watches, Hodinkee) when he covered this topic, detailing how Hublot managed to circumvent duplication of AP (I.e. using rubber and not an integrated bracelet; quartz instead of mechanical, and the slight alteratio...

I think to sell a watch

 By: sham1 : August 10th, 2021-01:13
the price has to be right. The Casio Oak offers unrivalled value for money, the Hublot however does mot. Three decades ago, Hublot had a niche producing watches with rubber straps. I liked them then. Nowadays however at that price point, customers want or...

Thank you! :-)

Actually my birthday is not for another 8 days

 By: sham1 : August 8th, 2021-13:19
and the gift came very early but thank you anyway. One of my best ever birthday presents!

As crazy as this may sound

 By: sham1 : August 9th, 2021-00:28
out of respect for my Casio Oak, I am pretty sure this will be my one and only G Shock watch. Yes it would be nice to have the same watch with white markers which is arguably more legible but I can tell the time fine with my watch! If anything, it might a...

At least I am in good company :-)

There have been two watches in my life that have impacted my watch collecting philosophy. Last year I acquired a Glashutte Original Senator Excellence which I wore daily for 4 months and made me wonder why I needed many of my other watches so I sold most ...

Wow. Did you ever regret that decision?

 By: KCLQMULKU : August 9th, 2021-20:04
I am sure you had rejuvenated your high end collection. I suppose changes in life happen to allow the subconscious decision to revitalise one’s watches. Much like fires in moderate degrees help the forest to grow. 😆

No regrets!

I completely understand your view and experience.

I would like to say that I have grown to become a hybrid when it comes to what I look for. Partly on accuracy and reliability, but also on movement, history, and customer service in the long-term. I like Casio’s because of their reliability, but also thei...

Lovely Presage!

 By: sham1 : August 13th, 2021-01:27
I have never seen one with a green dial. You have excellent taste. It just shows one does not have to spend lots to acquire an excellent timepiece. I acquired mine in May and the love affair has only got stronger. ...

Thank you and beautiful piece too!

 By: KCLQMULKU : August 13th, 2021-08:32
10 years ago I would not had taken a second glance at, for example, Seiko. I remember seeing this out in the wild and was awestruck. So simple, and pleasant to look at from afar and in pictures, but when seeing in person, wow.

Amazing!

 By: sham1 : August 13th, 2021-09:02
I share exactly the same sentiments as you do as I would not have entertained a Seiko or a Casio even 2 years ago but now they are among my favourite watches and share the same watch box as my Patek and Moritz Grossmann. Remove the differing price points ...

I am sure we are not. 😆

 By: KCLQMULKU : August 13th, 2021-09:09
Some might laugh at this photo of part of my collection (need to buy a bigger box!), but I like the contrast. Each has a differentiated purpose, and I love all equally. ...

A lovely collection!

 By: sham1 : August 13th, 2021-09:26
And a gorgeous Rapport box too to hold the watches. I used to own Rapport watch winders years ago! Enjoy your diverse collection. I call it the complete collection!

Thank you!

I have always toyed with the ides of an exit watch

 By: sham1 : August 13th, 2021-10:58
but I finally concluded unless one is terminally ill or has lost one's passion for watches, there is no such thing as an an exit watch no thanks to arguably the largest selection of watches from the countless number of brands currently in the market. I do...

Very much agree!

 By: KCLQMULKU : August 13th, 2021-17:28
I do not believe in that term either, and dare I say for watch enthusiasts in general. If one wristwatch, a small battalion of timepieces, or even an entire division of watches is not enough, how can there ever be a final watch. A myth in my view, with th...

Ok it is now confirmed!

The CasiOak is a terrific watch!

 By: NT931 : August 8th, 2021-14:39
Bought one during the pandemic on a whim, loved it so much, bought another! And now thinking of buying a 3rd, the translucent one. Terrific for working from home,.puttering around, for sports etc. And as you said, light & comfortable. A thoughtful gift in...

Oh wow! Three Casio Oaks!

 By: sham1 : August 8th, 2021-15:32
That is as impressive collection. The minute people hear Casio G Shock, an immediate pessimism arises but after wearing mine, I now find my stainless steel watches rather heavy! God knows how I would cope with for example a Lange Datograph in platinum! I ...

Thank you!

Now I know why this Casio Oak is sold out in many markets - it is because the purists have bought most of them!!

Great for giving or receiving. Enjoy!
