Modern and Future Classics

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 27th, 2020-16:04
Looks aside, which one do you prefer? A toss up for me, luckily can enjoy both. Modern movement with bells and whistles, higher tech materials and accurate like an atom clock or old school charm but not as accurate (can be regulated of course) ...

I think I’ll go for the Daytona

...

It funny because I’ve owned both and sold them.

I didn’t find yet my favorite chrono. Maybe I’m not a chrono guy

Congratulations....

What’s in the pocket is real. All others are just on paper only 🤪

We all know how the middle man takes the big cut...

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 27th, 2020-18:28
but pretty sure your dealer at least will take the Daytona...try trading the other way round with the Zenith or JLC and you’ll be treated differently 😊

I have just make mine non liquid

I have 2 of 3 with the casebacks engraved 🤪

Why looks aside?

By: India Whiskey Charlie : October 27th, 2020-16:10
I think looks are important but considering everything, I'd choose the Ed White no questions asked. IMO, it has a lot more charm and that movement (which you can see) is to die for.

Looks can be deceiving 😂

So I just suggest comparing data but of course not relevant since all are subjective when comes to charm.

Ahhh the eternal struggle...

Speedmaster...IMO utterly ageless...a pure timepiece!

Daytona’s are ageless too :)

Just look at those 6238/6239/6263/6265s and PN, now they are the King 👑

Yes the 42s are also good...I love this one too.

...

I have EVERY single reference of Daytona you named above as well as the modern ones so I can say with first hand experience that I would still choose an EW 321, vintage or modern, over any vintage or modern Daytona...

We all have our preferences but coming from someone who has owned them all and worn them all for extended periods of time, I feel the Speedies trump the Daytona in almost every way. Don't even get me started on the 321 movement (Lemania 2310 base) as I am...

LOL, you asked us to choose so I gave you my opinion based on someone who actually has them all...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : October 29th, 2020-15:06
I don't think many can say that so ownership has to count for something, no? We all can and should choose based on our own likes and dislikes BUT one never knows for sure unless you have first hand experience with all these different references. It is lik...

I do not have either, but I think I prefer the omega

Overall character...

Here for both aesthetic and mechanic I would wear and keep the Omega

 By: PoyFR : October 27th, 2020-19:40
The only Daytona that seduces me is the intermediate (Zenith) and to me it is a keeper. In terms of reliability, routine service and maintenance both are excellent. For instant trading and cashing in the Rolex is the pass to the moon, tough the higher the...

Sorry to mislead from other threads but I’m not intending to let go either...

 By: Clueless_Collector : October 27th, 2020-19:58
I love modern pieces hence and I’m into tributes and new models. Both are keepers in my books and I absolutely appreciate my ADs for allocating them to me. Thanks for the info on the zenith, maybe someday I’ll have more confidence in the vintage or interm...

Here, the Speedie. [nt]

Ah...you always go for Charm :) [nt]

Hahaha! ;) [nt]

Both genuine classics

Personally I'd take the Omega, because: - 321 movement; - overall quality; - horological heritage; - aesthetics (probably one of the very few who thinks the Daytona is not good looking and not desirable).

You’re not the only one.

🤭

Always good to know

one isn’t completely alone 🍻

I hear you and no doubt

Omega hit the nail on the head with this new Ed White. Thanks for the input....panda has lots of fans I have to say.

No doubt it has.

 By: George Gently : October 28th, 2020-12:44
Enjoy both in good health. George

Thank you very much George [nt]

Still Undecided!! I have taken past 4 weeks to judge the Ed White. I have always liked the looks...

 By: redcorals : October 29th, 2020-10:15
..of Speedmaster 42mm over modern ST Daytona 520s though both are perfectly proportioned. The EW somehow is challenging me with its proportions (case: bracelet width)- The bracelet width seems narrow to me even if its true to its original form. Maybe its ...

All I can say is try it on first before judging. I have EVERY single iteration of the modern Daytona and almost every 4 digit Daytona reference, at least ALL of the ones mentioned by Raymond...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : October 29th, 2020-10:34
I would easily choose the EW 321 in vintage or re-edition over ANY Daytona, vintage or modern, if we take the monetary aspect out of the equation. I say this as the Daytonas, especially the vintage 4 digit models, sell for multiples more so I would choose...

I have one of each and they are actually so different

 By: descartes1 : January 3rd, 2021-14:09
One is a large manual wind chronograph (which is a genre in and of itself) and the other is a sleek luxury sports watch.

A Black SS Daytona will be nice but I opted for the white due to the contrast and Panda look...

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 3rd, 2021-20:08
Therefore a White Daytona and a Black Speedy for me works. Rolex bracelets are better than the standard Moonwatch and I always think Omega look nicer on leather strap but this newer bracelets from the Apollo 11 and the Ed White changes my mind now.
