And that’s the problem with the Longines re-editions—they are pulling up the aesthetics, but not the great Longines movements of the past.
With Zodiac or Heuer, it doesn’t matter—the historic movements were supplied (yes, including the Heuer Calibre 11/12). But imagine a Zenith “re-edition” of the A386 with an ETA 2894 or even a 7753 instead of an El Primero.
I have no problem with ETA movements, of course. But the Movado Datron reissue of 2013 used a 2894 instead of a Zenith EP. It was priced appropriately relative Zenith-powered watches, but that movement choice was still widely excoriated. It should have been a hit, but maybe I’m underestimating Movado Hate.
