I recently learned of a specialist watch magazine called Low Beat (ロービート) from Japan. It’s published semi-annually and focuses on vintage watches. Great pictures and surprisingly good, technical info for the real watch geek ( otaku might be the better wor...

I've discovered Kinokuniya few years ago in Bangkok

They have a huge, beautiful store in the EM Quartier district mall. 😍😍😍😍 I hope KIH will tell us more about this magazine, it's so hard to find interesting readings today (I still like Revolution)

"Low Beat" mostly talks about...

... vintage, sometimes antique watches, which are not my speciality as you may know. But sometimes the editor-in-chief, who is a good friend of mine, asks me to write on some specific topic which even I can talk. So, I think this is the only one - ah, I a...

In Japan there are some of the largest watch collectors of...everything! 😎

It belongs to your culture, trying to achieve perfection.

Thank you.

I have been trying to introduce new generation of watchmakers from Japan and vice virsa..... Your culture maks tons of what Japanese love, too!

It's a reciprocal interest

I think the language barrier is the main issue for japanese people; i'm aware my english is not at all perfect, but although here the vibe is extremley familiar and relaxed, new purists might be uneasy by not perfectly mastering english. For the little ti...

You are right.

At least on the street, people started tying to help foreign tourists with hand language and a little bit of English they know. They should be more proud when they speak English. But then again, they are shy and they always feel sorry that their English i...

Absolutely! Long live to Ppro! [nt]

Your work has been recognised in this way. I think that it’s very important for us to engage with the collectors in Japan as they are so passionate about watches. I don’t blame them about being careful about the internet. Do you have any ideas about the b...

Thank you Captain!

Well, I have been trying. Younger generations may have less "hesitance" about posting here. I have been doing this for more than 10 years simply because I did not know any Japanese place and was living in NY back then. More and more young watch fans have ...

Wow, wow... quite a long time ago, I don't even remember what I wrote :-))

There are some well known watch magazines in Japan - Chronos Japan, Low Beat, and World Wrist Watches, etc.... to name a few. I do not read foreign watch magazines so I cannot confirm, but some my non-Japan watch friends or journalists who do read some Ja...

Nah, you da man! You ARE the star :-))

. . . our shining star, Ken . . . . . . but your efforts over the years haven't gone unnoticed. Your Speedmaster article was definitive. Few can lay a claim as sweeping. Best, Art

Oh, Art, that's more than I deserve, really! Thanks!

The Speedmaster article was really a blast! Thank you, sir. Ken

Hahaha. Yes, I am nobody!

.. but once you come here, you already have a friend you can trust! That's for sure and that's the beauty of this forum. Yeah, I may be too trusting, too, hehe. Thanks for noticing me!

A follow-up on the magazine

Ken, the article on chronometers was great so don’t worry! Actually, my Japanese reading comprehension is mediocre at best - and then throw in all the specialized watchmaking terms - these magazines can be quite a challenge, haha. Took a picture of all th...

If it economically makes sense...

Haha, I didn’t even post the nicer pictures from the magazine

Here are some more to whet your appetite. Understanding the text really does enhance the experience. It’s kinda like 50% of the enjoyment is from the great pictures alone. The rest is in the details that they may highlight with arrows or boxes, but you ne...

Much appreciated. The editor-in-chief/ owner would be very happy to hear that!

 By: KIH : April 8th, 2018-09:41
.. as for the continuous contents generation, yeah, I hear you. But they come up with some ideas every time. They may come from other angles, like - German watches, British watches, etc.... Yes, it must be a small group of readers, but they still continue...

This has made me really think about...

...how they can write more articles and also how to reach a larger audience (ie. outside Japan). As far as I know, there is no other magazine dedicated solely to vintage timepieces. There are reference books on vintage watches and there are online forums ...
