I was thinking, with COP 26 in my back yard, surely by having a mechanical watch, one is avoiding throwaway technology and this is better for all concerned? A Rolex may last 50 to 100 years, while an Apple Watch 5 years? Quartz watches perhaps a little lo...

Because the manufacturers do not support repair. If spare parts and schematics were made available, there is no reason a phone, laptop, or Apple Watch couldn’t last 15 years imo. Mechanical watches without service would also start to fail.

Rolex's update cycle does indeed have a much lower frequency than Apple's or Samsung's

Sure but as probably the smallest electronic everyday accessory it's a drop in the bucket.

Every little bit counts and all but it would probably take thousands of apple watches to match the eco footprint of a Tesla and it probably takes more energy to make the Bitcoin equivalent value of the watch than the watch itself. Tech will keep getting b...

The argument can go as no one really needs an additional timepiece especially a smart watch however, they keep adding functions that make most peoples life easier such as notifications of arriving messages , emails, newsflash etc not to mention the "healt...
