The practicality of an Annual Calendar

 By: Onemorewatch : July 22nd, 2019-06:08
I seem to have longed for an AC for a long time and having neared the date when I thought I may pull the trigger I now find myself questioning the practicality of getting one. I love the complication, the dressy nature of the watch and in all honesty it’s...

If you’re like me, you’ll need to put it on a winder.

While I don’t care how the date is set on a time-date watch, I can’t stand a wrong date on a PC or AC - it’s their raison d‘être to show the correct date after all. Unless you’re of the really disciplined kind and wind it at least every other day, a winde...

I am a fan of annual calendars.

They are much more robust and legible than perpetuals and solve 90% of the issue with months having varying number of days. In terms of practicality within a larger collection - it is a question of whether you view the adjustment process as a chance to in...

Annual Calendars are more vex-free if you travel...

The older Perpetuals only advance; I hear there are new ones that allow you to wind back. But for the older ones, it can be problematic if you travel frequently across day-change timezones. For this reason, I prefer ACs as a rule--they are as complex as I...

A Calendar watch is already a very useful complication - the programming adjustments tracking benefit will still be beneficial if you are wearing at the end of a month.

I do love Annual Calendars and find the complication very practical on a daily basis

As so many other things, it's very personal, but since you asked: - I use my AC daily during long periods of time to really enjoy the complication. - Even though a PC is a higher complication, I don't really feel that I "need" one in the collection having...

Also practical if you use the date as a reference on a daily basis (as I do)

If you're not a 'watch freak', not much different to an AC. But as a watch-nut, I prefer the additional complication. I also prefer window indications to subdials, which is a bit of a contradiction as one of my dream watches is the 5970 (or 5270).
