What to sell?

Jan 28, 2022,20:52 PM

Would like to collect some views on a topic that I am pretty sure we all face occasionally: what to sell?

Let me describe my problem a bit.

A watch you often wear, you keep. A watch you rarely wear because you do not like anymore, you sell. That part is simple.

There are some more tricky cases:

- rarely worn, but some light attachement - first real watch, did some part of the assembly
- rarely worn, but would face steep loss when selling, as non-common make/model
- rarely worn, but has a distinct usecase, which seems to never happen - gold sports watch
- rarely worn, as overshadowed by a better watch - blue zenith vs nautilus

I only want watches to wear them, but still struggle. Any tricks?

C.

My criteria to sell:

I obviously at some point liked every watch I own enough to buy it, but we evolve and move on, so my criteria is: will I miss the watch in question enough to re-buy it? I look back at almost all of my dearly departed with fond memories, but make no effort...

Every watch purchased to effort and time to acquire.

The hunt as we call it. Once you have made that commitment it is hard to unwind as it feels like it was for nothing. So you just become a hoarder. Sorry not being helpful.

You’re not alone.

1) Always keep 2) Sometimes if that is the only way of making up the gap on something you want to buy it must be done. I’ve done it. 3) Similar to my comment above, if it’s the only way of making up the gap then it must be done. 4) Sell. It will always be...

I do not wear a watch and yet I have an extensive watch collection….

I do not need a watch (I look at my phone to tell the time) and so I view each of my watches as a luxury item and not a necessity. And, for me, luxury is all about emotion. I must have an emotional connection to a piece, it must elicit a feeling within me...

I would sell the watches that i don't wear it often because i am not comfortable with it and will not miss it when i sell them

Other reasons are not enough for me to sell them. Especially the last one : i don't care if my watch is overshadowed by any other model, as long as i like it. My watch is a personal statement of who i am, not who i am supposed to be according to the hype ...

I feel like selling among certain collectors

Is viewed as anathema, and should be avoided at all costs. Almost as if it’s an affront to the watchmaker who made the watch. I’ve sold watches after owning them for 24 hours. If I don’t bond with a watch immediately, it will leave my collection. I never ...

Why don’t you place each point in order of importance.

Then take the top 5 points and any watch that falls under any of the categories stay and the others you can sell. If all your watches qualify under the top 5 then lower the criteria to top 3 and see what’s left ha ha

The situation in my case . . .

. . . is similar to Hitchcock's Lifeboat . I've reached the point where I can no longer justify adding to my collection. At forty altogether, the sheer size has become unmanageable. I insist on wearing all of them, even if only for a few days a year. So f...

I am with you on that dear Dr No .

Somehow overthinking a topic that is supposed to be emotional is not what it should be like. Your comments tell me, I am not alone, likely it is more about decision style and whether you feel you should simplify once in a while or hoarding has merrits. C....

I have sold many much to my regret...

But I have bought many as well... Must stop chasing which is easier said than done.

For me number 2 always got to go

no matter if it is a car, a painting or a watch. It is a sign that it don't speak to me anymore. The value of the piece has fallen so much that I have lost money. All these facts combined is a pebble in my shoe every time I look at the piece and therefore...

I think if the watch yields significant value and I must use it to buy another then yes, but...

for others, if I find in time that I hardly ever wear a watch and only like it when sitting in its box, then I would rather give it to family or friends than sell it.

That makes sense, thx.
