What a perfect way of putting it! For sure I don’t worry about the value on my wrist, just enjoy. If I worried then why own other than to stick in a box? Enjoyable for some, not for me.

Ever sold or stopped wearing a watch because the value has risen too much ?

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 23rd, 2021-13:06
for some it might be 5K, others 50K and a few 500K Doesn't matter this is personal ... but were you ever in this situation ? This somehow destroys the joy ... Let's take an example ( not that I have this watch but just to make things more clear. ) In 2006...

A real good friend of mine taught me about the meaning of 'Less is More'

Focus on the essential, enjoy and have a greater life. If something (here it is about watch...es) takes anytime off your work, your family, your confort, your good life then you know what to do. Time is before most about quality of life, and each of us ar...

Well said!

Nope. I wear all my watches with pride and joy.

 By: Ahoi : November 23rd, 2021-13:28
I have to work too hard to put them in my bank account 😂

i would continue to wear the watch but more carefully and sparingly.

 By: sake : November 23rd, 2021-13:35
same situation with many classic cars where i live. prices have shot up like crazy recently but the amount you can insure the car for have not kept up.

No. Wear them please.

 By: enjoythemusic : November 23rd, 2021-13:36

If a particular watch of mine reaches a factor of 10x, then i would consider selling. Because this is just insane.

 By: @lberti : November 23rd, 2021-13:42
In the meanwhile i would carefully wear them. Happy to say that none of my watches are not even near 10x retail and thats definitely ok with me😊

Been here, done this twice...

Whenever I buy a watch or anything else

 By: sham1 : November 23rd, 2021-14:06
I was look at its opportunity cost - what else I could buy for the same amount of money. I buy watches with the intention of keeping them. However, as I am not super rich, if my watch has doubled or tripled in value, I will then ask myself what else I cou...

Yes

 By: xxn : November 23rd, 2021-14:08
but not because they have risen in value but more because they have gone from stealth to mainstream in popularity and now attract unwanted attention…..

Kind of the same here

 By: Jesper : November 23rd, 2021-14:48
But I prefer not selling those watches. Let's say I have a dozen watches (mostly PP & FPJ) whose value has gone crazy, I know feel weird or overwhelmed wearing them because I would never have bought them at that price because it's against my budget, my sa...

Yes and sold a few because of it...

 By: nacelle : November 23rd, 2021-14:52
I want to wear them, not worry about them. Locking away something because it has become too valuable does not make any sense to me. Wearing something once or twice a year beacause it is too valuable is to me also a waste. Owning a beautiful watch and worr...

A few watches I have increased in value, particularly over the course of the last 12 months or so as independent brands started heating up. I still collect new watches, but I find myself not wearing many of them as often as i otherwise would because of th...

It´s really beautiful dear Mike. I can well understand your love for this one. Agree with you that it doesn´t really look like a Rolex due to its unique dial.

I feel Rolex would make a big deal offering this dial again in their modern DJ line. Beautiful shots you share here. You make me think I neeed to try mine with some nice leather straps. Keep loveing and enjoying yours so much dear Mike! Best, Abel

...and probably won't wear in when I visit NYC. It used to be my beater, go-to travel watch. It was replaced last year by a $20 green, plastic Timex. I do wear it when I visit Tokyo. It's not so much the dollar value of the Rolex but more the sentimental ...

Already have plans to sell the watch because it has become far too pricey

 By: Poky : November 23rd, 2021-15:50
For me personally the risk of having it stolen is not worth it. The organised gangs know their watches and know where to hang around to identify expensive watches; for them it's a simple process. I am probably in the minority for not wearing my watch outs...

Well, better this way than the contrary. ;) More seriously, there ware watches whose price increased a lot these last 10 years and I didn't nor I do plan to sell them. I still wear them.

👆🏿👆🏿👆🏿 I’d sell and get something else (and there are lots of options out there) 1. I don’t have billions in disposable wealth 2. I don’t like ‘wristing’ objects that are equivalent (in value) to the college debt of an average US graduate 3. I don’t like ...

Agreed.

But that doesn't save me from the dilemma, it just explains what the dilemma is!

Your FPJ example? Sell, take the money . . .

 By: Dr No : November 23rd, 2021-19:07
. . . and run. A perfect 2915-1 bought in '06 for $9K? Sell, take the money, and run.

Agreed!

IMO this is a COVID-19 bubble I don't think these prices are sustainable. When things resume back to normalcy so will watches, cars and real estate.

Agree here as well!

The thought to sell or keep is there

 By: rnaden : November 24th, 2021-02:34
Not so much because of the value in the market, but will depend on how recognizable it is. The more people I get (non watch people) making comments that veer into the pricing and “how much did you have to pay for that” territory, I would stop wearing it b...

Yes. Stopped wearing...

If you were ok to spend let’s say 25k on a watch and wear it all the time Your financial situation did not change but 10 years later that same watch is worth 150k Would you still wear it? I think I wouldn’t fret comfortable. I would still love it but what...
