Ulysse Nardin is my choice

Jun 11, 2022,14:41 PM

Very subjective if you are aiming for the most natural display or the most historical provenance or the best functioning.

The Ulysse Nardin does not have the best dial layout amongst all of these and the date changes are gradual, but you can set it forwards and backwards via the crown and it's readable by a layman. It's no longer the only idiot-proof perpetual calendar on the market, but Ludwig Oeschlin's movement remains the champion of the genius in simplicity philosophy.

PC preference

With the recent sharing of new AP perpetual calendar pieces on the forum, I started wondering whether there is a general opinion about which brand makes the best perpetual calendar watch, or is it a matter of taste? I realize there are many nuances to the...

The most friendly is certainly made by Ulysse Nardin. As you can set the calendar forward and backward without fear of breaking it.

As for the prettiest, it is a matter of taste, for sure. I have a certain weakness for the 3940, if we are speaking of perpetual calendars only, excluding perpetual calendar with another complication. The RO Perpetual skeleton and the Vacheron Patrimony s...

That is a good point about the ease of setting…

which is what brought FP Journe to mind. But I completely overlooked the skeleton models which are awesome game changers! Thanks for your excellent points.

Pleasure, my friend.

The PP 3940 for me. It has the perfect size.

but I agree they have those additional little touches that really distinguish it and make it special.

Of those in the picture my choice would be H Moser & Cie's.

 By: lm6 : June 11th, 2022-11:00
I haven't seen it in real though. I like clean dials, and want them to have high legibility. So the Moser wins with second place to GO and third to AL&S. When the date is on a hard to read subdial (pointer), in my opinion the point of the perpetual calend...

Moser certainly has a unique take on the PC.

For readability, FP Journe remains my top contender, imho.

I had no idea this was a perpetual!

This is on a whole other level, wow.

My choices were the Patek and the IWC that I had a few years ago......but....

as my eyes got older (and OLDER) I couldn't see anyting but the hour and minute hands, so I parted with them. I like the Breguet because it looks "complicated". I can imagine one's preference is based on taste/looks and then brand and then inner workings....

Agreed. I didn’t mean to limit to the options in the picture…

but your key points of consideration make a lot of practical sense to me.

I personally believe this is unquestionably the best QP in existence.

Where other QP's are so poorly thought out that they can not be set at certain times, or in both directions, this can. It is a giant leap in QP design. It quite literally fixed some of the most major issues with the QP. And it happens to be stunning. ...
