I don’t think the various manufacturers will take any notice when pricing watches. Have a great weekend.

Abusive? a negative term

Do you mean the prices of the materials on the world markets or do you mean the relative pricing of precious metal watches vs steel or titanium? Perhaps "aspirational pricing" is how the watch companies might describe it... Cazalea

Platinum is much more difficult to work with when machining cases and parts.

This doesn’t justify the exorbitant prices the watches in this metal command but explains them a bit.

Nico if I remember correctly..

18K Daytona weight 220g with full bracelet while the PT950 Daytona weight in at 283g with full bracelet. So the PT Daytona is 28% heavier than AU750.

exactly

Not only is Platinum heavier, the % of platinum is 100% . 18 karat gold is ony 75% gold and it is much less dense than Platinum.

Gold v/s Platinum

 By: Timewarp : May 24th, 2019-11:21
Platinum came into prominent in the Second World War as it was a very good conductor and was used in soldiers and contacts. Subsequently better conductors have been found. It is also considered a rare earth. Today gold is considered a commodity for exchan...

Some watchmakers will answer..

 By: Teacher Yang : May 24th, 2019-16:53
You need more platinum to make a watch.. but it is a better lasting material..

Yes but you need much more Platinum than Gold to make a case

 By: foversta : May 24th, 2019-14:13
- for density reasons - and because it is much more complicated to work on platinum than gold Fx

It really isn’t.

Another ploy the manufacturers use to justify pricing it as they do. It’s a relatively soft material to machine, especially when you’re using tools with 10x (or more) the hardness. Grade 5 Titanium alloy is a good bit harder, and no-one ever talks about b...
