Big sin for a purist ?! what are your thoughts as a Purist/Mechanical watch lover...

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-02:05
I decided to borrow from my wife and tryout the Apple watch today... Are there purists who use Apple watch regularly or double wrist with mechanical watches ? share your thoughts / feeling.... as i enjoy mechanical objects much more, i personally realize ...

Honestly never

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-02:11

exactly what i thought too & i wanted to try it today and over the weekend....

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-02:23
but if i may...what is the 'breaking point' ?

Functionally I feel it is redundant with my smartphone

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-03:29
If I want something versatile with battery I would always go with Gshock and its extra tactical toughness. The only think it adds different value is in health and sport. But in this scenario I choose garmin ruggedness

Exactly

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-05:07
IMHO it is actually a sublime and calming moment when we look at our favorit watch while putting away all our gadget.

my wife tells me, we got the time on phone why a watch ;-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:36
is it purely a question of redundancy ?

LOL

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-06:47
Let's make a deal, wife can have as many phone as she wants vv we can have as many watch as we want. 👍👍

🤣

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-07:33
As many bag vs as many watch Or As many jewelry vs as many watch?

wise man you're ;-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-07:45
i just do dishes for now

Whoa Grand Master advise

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-14:55
Double the budget for watch then🤣🤣 .

Never..... say never again?

 By: manilx : February 26th, 2021-02:37
Actually Never as a watch replacement. Isn't going to happen! But as a health monitoring device... different story. Problem being to have both wrists occupied and I just can help feeling weird and uncomfortable. So this is the dilemma currently. Apart fro...

i agree...i did try in past other health bands with no time display !

Dear Manix, the best health monitoring "device" is yourself. Be alive, wake up, eat well, move around, love, cry and appreciate that your are able to do all these! If by then you do need a "monitoring device" then see a doctor. Cheers, Francois

True.... Nevertheless

 By: manilx : February 26th, 2021-06:42
After nearly dying a couple of yrs ago with a blood vessel bursting in my brain there are things you can't control and feel before..... But yes, you' right 99% of the time.

in deed the predictability on health care is significant value on apple watch...

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-07:24
i understood the latest version has an active ECG monitoring !

Glad to read that you were very fortunate and that you are well.

 By: Sandgroper : February 26th, 2021-18:54
In this particular case an Apple watch "monitoring device" wouldn't have helped anyway. Cheers, Francois

I went a month double wristed

 By: rnaden : February 26th, 2021-02:46
Not convinced for a couple of reasons : 1. It is uncomfortable for me to have a “watch” on my right wrist for long periods of time 2. I kept forgetting to charge it every night 3. It was strange having the screen light up every time I moved my wrist and w...

you're a brave heart i must say !

as i say within half day...the number of alerts it gives - too much distraction :-( thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best, mahesh.,

I just don’t feel the need for this additional tech in my life ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 26th, 2021-02:53
On a positive note it would save me a small fortune ;-))

lol...aye aye captain !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-03:07
in deed wise to save for another watch Best, mahesh.,

Totally agree with you guys

 By: Gelato Monster : February 26th, 2021-03:31
Dont get me wrong it is a unique tech but in my case I would rather use the apple watch money to buy better smart phone biennial.

Thanks, I also think ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 26th, 2021-03:43
We should keep our minds open to all watches, even from the likes of Apple. Good call to post this one and have the discussion. Best regards The Captain

Thanks Captain ! we all could agree, we don't necessarily look at our wristwatch for time..

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-04:14
still we love a mech. watch, a 'mono-functional device' (pretty much) because it is a connection to past... where as Apple is multi-functional, but connecting to future + avg of all functions - may be !

Good points 👍

Purist talk

 By: Weems@8 : February 26th, 2021-03:41
You must be curious about the Apple watch. The sin. Not forget other digital wrist devices which measure things. For us mechanical watches have a value that never can be beaten by anything else. When over 10 years thousands of Apple watches and other digi...

Thanks for the thoughts...i love the main use of iP you mention - pretty much it is what i use it for too :-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-04:18
there is something 'ticking' about the mechanical watch that is indeed connecting at emotional level than just a tool ! there are days i forget my phone at home & i don't take the pain to come back to pick it...but never with a watch - it is on my wrist a...

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-04:21
thanks Clive...i'm happy to see almost 'zero' interest from most till now on Apple watch Best, mahesh.,

that is cool & techie bed clock i guess ;-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:15
i hear repeatedly about Garmin watch...seems to be a good activity watch.

Yes I find Garmin much better for sports - Golf, cycling, etc

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : February 26th, 2021-05:28
The iWatch is no where near the Garmin in terms of sports/activity watch IMO

I wear either an Apple Watch or Garmin daily.

 By: Jay (Eire) : February 26th, 2021-04:50
Since we’ve been home it’s almost exclusively one or the other of these on the wrist as I tend not to wear a mechanical watch at home. For me the Garmin is a workout tool, it has functionality the Apple doesn’t. The Apple Watch is a replacement for my pho...

you're the first one Jay !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:17
i also prefer if Apple watch is more a 'band or bracelet' without screen still capture health inputs - would be cool isn't it ?! it will allow to put our mechanical watch on the wrist too. thanks for chiming in !

This is not a wrist watch…

 By: myles721 : February 26th, 2021-04:59
It’s a computer that you wear on your wrist. I think it’s a matter of time before mechanical watchmakers start building that kind of technology into the bracelet part of the watch so that people can have both I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done it or ...

Actually, I think so..

 By: myles721 : February 26th, 2021-05:32
A small Bluetooth touch device where the clasp is...maybe solar...just enough...heart rate location etc...best of both worlds automatic reliability data connectivity...especially for sport watches.

Neither on my wrist nor on other wrists these specimen look good imho

 By: penfriend : February 26th, 2021-05:05
why waste your wrist time with computers when you can have calibers?

you've a point !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:12

For some the need exists for others it's ownership of technology.

true...for most of us what you say is true, but we're still niche ;-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:33
on average when i look at wrist while walking across streets...the numbers are changing quite visibly !

lol :-)

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-05:38
can't argue on that, isn't it ?!

ah...that says it all !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-06:13

true...even email phone is already heavy !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-06:15
some days i wonder i'll get back to a 3310...no battery issues, no breaking issues & works the best for calling - the only trouble is wristshots ;-)

Nope - if you like it wear it

 By: jml_watches : February 26th, 2021-08:33
There's always your other wrist for a watch rather than a mini computer. I've seen plenty of people do that. I just wear to watches at once - mainly as I have too many! Cheers JML

me neither JLM, i was curious enough to try it on for a day but within half a day...the number of alerts it gives - too much distraction for me !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-08:55
for the moment i'm happy with mechanical watches but it thought it would be great to see what other Purists think by far, almost all stay strong with Mechanical watches - which is happy to see. Best, mahesh.,

I do wear it,but only one watch at a time....

 By: Ronald Held : February 26th, 2021-09:45
I cannot understand either all electronic or mechanical. Why limit your experiences, which seems a non PuristS thing?

Where is the ban button? ;)

i was walking thro' last week on the streets & quite strikingly i saw almost 7/10 ppl had it on the wrist...of course they're younger & we're wiser ;-) that is what triggered my thought...still i'm loyal to mechanical watches

I think the Apple 'Watch' is an amazing machine

 By: Geo : February 26th, 2021-10:24
Apple did an amazing job; the case, the way the straps can be changed, their steel bracelet, and the various dials are all great features. I double-wrist not often but do wear the watch often in the gym and during walks. Loaded with about 15 CD's and conn...

thanks Geo...i saw very few who're able to navigate between the two as you do !

 By: mahesh : February 26th, 2021-10:51
as i mentioned in the post...even to try it for a day - it was a big wall that i've to jump over on my mind. i think it has features that are too different value set but the heartbeat of the mechanical timepiece is in deed hard to beat Best, mahesh.,

I do love my Casios for what they are.... Tough watches for outdoor activities.... I do not need another "distractor" next to my mobile (major distractor)....

My Casio i usually wear when hiking or jogging.... A lot of people around me have apple watch and they surely do love it! I must say though i am more on the side of Android and CASIO. I dont like "charging" my watches. My Casio's are solar driven and have...

your Casio is cool...i think someone earlier mentioned G-shock too

i think one such timepiece as a beater is good to have. the pain i saw trying today was the distraction with it...alerts - i couldn't complete my trial the full day. Best, mahesh.,

i think partly because of the easiness to manage & partly most watch brands have very weak portfolio of mechanical watches for women. Best, mahesh.,

it seems on the sports/activity tracking few people switch to apple watch & come back to mechanical marvels for all other occasions. there are almost not many who double wrist ! hope to see you in next GTG...once things become normal. cdt, mahesh.,
