I hope you can resolve this issue one way or another.

Same thing here: I stopped using Paypal years ago for various and similar issues.

Hi guys, I recently sold a watch using PayPal goods and services. I received the funds and shipped the watch via Fedex the next day. Three weeks later I received an email from PayPal stating that the buyer opened a dispute against the purchase. The buyer ...

Disputes and chargebacks are always a concern with ebay and PayPal

 By: mpg13 : August 15th, 2020-15:50
If I may ask, What did the buyer give as a reason for his chargeback?

I had not heard of chargebacks before this.

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-16:01
He said that he did not authorize the transaction. He brought up the dispute with his bank and paypal.

So he claimed that his credit card number was fraudulently used. That is a difficult situation to deal with.

 By: mpg13 : August 15th, 2020-16:20
It helps if the buyer has a verified PayPal account and confirmed address but even that's not guaranteed to protect you. Even wire transfers can be reversed. Knowing something about the buyer is the only real safeguard. I'm sorry for your loss. Best, Mart...

A wire transfer can be reversed?

 By: pongster : August 15th, 2020-21:53
After it hits recipient’s account?

Yup, you have 0-48H to reverse your wire

 By: PoyFR : August 16th, 2020-00:21
If you have a reasonable excuse your bank can recall your transfer, it can work as long as there are funds in that account. But, usually scammers are sitting by an ATM machine or at the bank's desk to empty the account the second the transfer arrives. Ano...

Does this apply to international transfers also?

 By: pongster : August 16th, 2020-00:39
It passes thru correspondent bank/s. So i think it would be unwieldy. I can imagine for a simple bank to bank transfer within same jurisdiction and you invoke fraud/money laundering. Moreso if same bank transfer. Easy to reverse.

It can work for any wire-transfer, local, regional and international too of course!

 By: PoyFR : August 16th, 2020-00:57
and now that banks open accounts online, it gets totally out of hand. Like I said earlier I know (and I know so little) the list goes on and on!

I don't know about France, but that's not true in the US

 By: logan2z : August 16th, 2020-13:38
A wire transfer cannot be reversed once it is complete. Lots of information online about this. But to be extra safe, I would require anyone sending me a wire transfer for payment to do it in person at their bank (that's generally required by the bank if t...

In France and anywhere too!

 By: PoyFR : August 16th, 2020-14:00
In my experience I know this to be possible From the US, from Europe and from China too. Anyway best thing to do is to check with each bank.

That’s what i know also

 By: pongster : August 20th, 2020-07:31
Wire transfers are irreversible once it is accepted by recipient bank. I have experienced banks rejecting wires due to suspicion of money laundering. But once it hits the destination account, irreversible. I guess the instances of it being reversed would ...

I just asked my banker friend

By: India Whiskey Charlie : August 16th, 2020-11:42
And he said a wire can be reversed if: - Fraud is identified and proven - The beneficiary agrees to return the money

Is that AND

 By: pongster : August 20th, 2020-07:32
or OR?

Thank you

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-16:02
It's terrible, I just hope that more collectors know about this to be aware. I had no idea about these chargeback scams.

Yeah, maybe it is better to get....

 By: K-Lo : August 15th, 2020-16:09
Really really really comfortable with the other party, and make sure a wire is done.

Yes.

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-16:48
I followed all the correct procedures and shipped to his PayPal address.

I’m sorry to hear about this ...

Something for us all to consider.

Thank you.

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-16:51
The more exposure these type of incidents can have the better it is for everyone. I hope that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

wow

 By: ripper444 : August 15th, 2020-16:26

 By: ripper444 : August 15th, 2020-16:26
I would be at that front door the next day...

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-16:52

I hate that, and he probably knew that you are

 By: K-Lo : August 15th, 2020-17:02
So far and took the risk. Really upset now.

 By: ripper444 : August 15th, 2020-18:14
there is no room for this time of stuff in life. I would be at that house the next morning and i would be leaving with my watch and everything he owns

Sorry for your loss, I am sure forum members will keep an eye to see whether the watch comes up in the future for sale and will let you know. [nt]

 By: Watchlover78 : August 15th, 2020-16:54
Yet, he is certainly a scammer, he will get what he deserves in the near future.

Thank you!

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 15th, 2020-17:35
I appreciate it.

I hate to see this happen.

 By: BigAppleBill : August 15th, 2020-17:53
So sorry for the anguish this must have caused. There are some real baddies and sociopaths out there.

This sucks.

 By: Jay (Eire) : August 15th, 2020-18:17
I remember several incidents like this back in my time on another forum. Across the country, no problem. Different country, we got you. Guys would just ask the OP for the address a go knock on the door. I do think some of these issues got resolved, but in...

I DISLIKE and DO NOT USE Paypal

 By: Mostel : August 15th, 2020-19:31
I do not use it and never will again. Quick story: My business did a LOT of $$ one Christmas... Pay pal decided to FREEZE my account, asking for every single person's shipping address and the items they purchased. Until I provided all of that, they litera...

 By: PoyFR : August 15th, 2020-23:40
Then you are Paypal protected and the case will end in your favour. Otherwise : - Do not go to his/that address, too risky with people on the other side *Go to your local Police to make your theft declaration *Re-contact Paypal and provide them with the t...

Thank you for your suggestions,

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 16th, 2020-07:42
I appreciated it and will look into all of these options.

That’s horrible news ,

 By: Watchonthewrists : August 16th, 2020-00:36

Sorry to hear about it... is the adress in France?

 By: T.S. : August 16th, 2020-01:05

That's really really sad

 By: sirbogey : August 16th, 2020-02:26
I hope you can resolve this issue one way or another. Same thing here: I stopped using Paypal years ago for various and similar issues.

I had always used friends and family option if any with PayPal.

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 16th, 2020-07:44
I didn't even think about it when he agreed to pay the paypal fees.

I agree,

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 16th, 2020-07:43
the more awareness on issues like this the better as I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Agreed. [nt]

Another approach is to have the carrier try to get it back

 By: cazalea : August 16th, 2020-06:38
Since it was shipped by Fedex, they can retrieve things or lock the recipients account - the overnight couriers are usually knowledgeable about the recipients - I'm pretty sure the post office won't or can't. A friend of mine was scammed the same way - th...

Thank you,

 By: DoesNotTickTock : August 16th, 2020-07:42
