the rest of the job done by the gaskets , actually it s the same like the SD push buttons , by screwing those down you prevent the accidental operation but the WR done by the gaskets .

Are screws down crowns really only needed to keep the crown secure and have nothing to do with water resistance? So, a watch with 100 meters water resistance and no screw down crown is safe to take swimming?? I always was thinking screw down crowns were n...

...that if a gasket alone can do the job, screwing down the crown can only add a measure of water resistance. It doesn't seem possible that a Submariner could be dropped into 1,000 feet of water and survive without the crown being tight. I think they have...

I would not trust a watch without a screw down crown for any swimming. To illustrate my position... Would you trust a watch with a snap back case to go swimming? Not me. Just my two cents. YMMV All the best. HEO

Maybe because the area around a crown is so much smaller?

Either way I think if it's rated to 100m it should be fine for the pool/snorkeling. When we go to Hawaii I bring my old beater Sub and call it a day : )
