Restoring watch case/ bracelets

Apr 13, 2020,04:38 AM

Hello,
I Hope everyone is safe and well.
I was hoping to have a go at finishing off the case of some old watches that I have lying around.
I wanted to have a go at the polished and brush parts of a case and bracelet. Has anyone ever attempted this? What grit papers should one start off with? What type of polishing compound? Tools?
I don’t have much experience of this at such a small scale but but appreciate feedback to get me started. Will do a step by step and feedback once I’ve achieved some level of success!
Many thanks
Al

Don’t even think about it. Get a Professional Watchmaker to do it.

Right,don't try yourself [nt]

If you can afford a good watch you can afford an expert

I use a dremel and finish with cape cod cloths

for the smooth parts, for the brushed part I use the finest grit available and a titanium refinishing pen.

Watchmakers have to undergo months-long (or possibly years-long) trainings, it's a job that I doubt you'll be able to learn successfully on your own simply by asking for advice on the web..

If you are being serious about this, then at least I'd advise you not to start with a watch you care about, since chances are you'll have to toss it at the end of the experiment...Please post the results here! ;-)
