Dilemma at the turn of the year. How do you solve that?

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-04:07
Just waiting for the first full moon in my new honeymoon with my IWC 3754-07. But: The most important time of the year for every owner of a PC with a full year display is coming soon. ๐Ÿ™ I am torn. On the one hand, you want to celebrate the newcoming year ...

I plan to be...

...self centered on my watch for 5 minutes, around midnight to see the PPC magic and all the dials and hands show! This will be the watch. ...

Wow!

Ha!! Lovely!!!

A classic. Best Thomas

Hhmmmmhhh....

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-08:53
I don't want to take off the watch. Is your proposal a good solution? The iPhone in one hand filming, the glass of sparkling wine or champagne in the other. โ€žUnfortunately, I can't hug you and wish you all the best. Unfortunately I don't have a free hand....

Quite the dilemma! Good luck either way :-)

I like your Novecento very much

And I think it has a rectangular movement especially adapted to the case? Perhaps I should remove myself for an hour? LOLLL Best Thomas

... the New Year with your loved ones๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ ...

Good idea.

Hoping the watch doesnโ€™t get damaged...

Thatโ€˜s what I am afraid of.

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-09:02
Do you know how big the risk is of dust entering if the crown is not screwed down?

Set it 3 hours ahead today and watch it change at 9 for the next few days

 By: cazalea : December 29th, 2020-07:44
Iโ€™m too old to stay up til midnight. BTW this is not a quick-change movement! Expect 2-3 hours for the process to complete itself on all subdials. They change in sequence- Iโ€™ll post pics if you like. Probably start at 11 and end by 2 am Cazalea

๐Ÿ˜„ Best solution.

Very important hint. Thank you!!

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-09:01
I forgot. The changes don't happen all at once. Do you remember, when the year indicator changes the ones digit?

Here are two photo sequences

 By: cazalea : December 29th, 2020-11:28
You can't film it because a feature-length, 2-hr movie of watch dials not changing won't even keep the owner awake. That's why in 17 years of owning this watch I only have a couple sequences... I gave up this year and came back at 6 am to find it changed....

Very interesting pics!

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-16:11
Thanks a lot for them. Good to know that the year changes not too near at midnight. And it is exciting (at least for a watch nerd like me) that obviously also the month indicator changes before the day and date. So I can cherish the hope that I have enoug...

Thank you IWC

for moving my post to the IWC forum. BUT I had intentionally posted my thread under Horological Meandering 1. so as not to annoy everyone here in the IWC forum with another post from my Da Vinci ๐Ÿ˜Ž 2. because I thought the topic is not IWC specific. So: ๐Ÿ˜ญ ...

Merci, dear IWC, for moving my thread back!!

 By: cazalea : December 29th, 2020-11:32
The only thing worse than watching a slow watch year change is trying to watch two without banging your head against the wall, crying "Why do I have this foolish hobby/obsession?" ...

Hahahahaha!

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-16:04
So funny!! And with these two beasts you obviously have a problem. This hobby / addiction drives us all to weird behavior and actions. We are hopelessly lost... LOLLL Best Thomas

Merci!

I know, I know, mon ami!

 By: MTR : December 29th, 2020-16:16
BUT here the star for me is the year indicator. I want to watch the change from โ€ž2020โ€œ to โ€ž2021โ€œ. In epic breadth but socially adequate. โ˜บ๏ธ

Well, let's see

 By: MTR : December 30th, 2020-09:42
how interesting it is for my family to watch the hundredths of a millimeter changes in the year slider and the changes of the other indicators for two or more hours (as cazalea has so aptly and impressively illustrated). LOL

Problem solved!

 By: MTR : December 31st, 2020-16:45
I simply missed it. Hahahahaha. Thinking that the โ€žmovieโ€œ ((c) cazalea) would take 2 hours I realized at 00:26 that all changes including the change of the full year window had happened already. So: next year - new chance! LOL Best Thomas P.S.: There was ...

Oops, your changeover may vary!

 By: cazalea : December 31st, 2020-18:38
It might have started early. I suppose it depends on who assembled the watch and how much slack is in the various systems. Mine hasnโ€™t started yet (West Coast)

No, it was just shorter than imagined.

 By: MTR : January 1st, 2021-04:33
When I looked at the dial at 23:45 for the last time, nothing had changed so far. Perhaps it is a later generation? My 3750 first generation also needed a longer time. Best Thomas

Thank you, my dear friend, for
