Given two identical watches to buy, except for the case, one being stainless steel, the other being platinum or white gold. On the street most likely no one you encounter would ever now the difference. Which one would you select?

I will assume money is not a consideration here...platinum , the WG then SS for the simple reason I love to feel the weight of a watch

I will that I only have one WG watch in the collection, but boy do I get some joy of wearing it with the weight it has...also, again this personal to each person, but I do not wear a nice watch for people to notice it, but because it brings me pleasure. A...

I find it hard to go for precious metal when the cheaper steel watch is available.

There are some exceptions, but 8 times out of 10 I’m going steel.

That's my take on it too. Not only that,

white gold and platinum are out of my price range. Even if I could I'm not sure I would go for precious metal. Something about a Rolex Cellini keeps calling my name, maybe my ship will come in someday.

It depend on wearing

If the watch were for daily wearing I would end up the stainless steel because it is lighter. In case of wearing the watch every now and then my choice would be platinum because its heavier weight. In terms of someone knowing the difference whether the wa...

All things been equal,

where costs is not an issue,it depends on the watch whether it trends towards a sports slant or otherwise. If a sporty take,i would go with ss,otherwise platinum because of. the heft

I think a lot of it depends on the character of the watch, and what material best suits it

For something like a Royal Oak or Gronefeld Principia, stainless is fine. For a formal dress watch, I'd be more inclined to go with a precious metal. I will say that my biggest gripe with stainless steel is that it's a common and unremarkable material to ...

Stainless steel for me

 By: sham1 : November 9th, 2020-17:31
simply because I like my watches to be as light as possible so that I do not feel them when they are on my wrist. The rationale behind this is I want a watch to be a part of me rather than being an accessory.

Interesting question

Because these days,ss can cost as much as precious metal watches

It depends on the watch.

Steel for a sports or dive watch with bracelet. Platinum is most desirable for a dress watch. WG is in a bit of a no-man’s-land if platinum and steel are being offered. Of course there are exceptions, but those are my general preferences.

It depends on the type of timepiece

Dress watch on a croc - Pt Sports or Daily wearer- Steel or Titanium my preference is always white metal... Best, Mahesh.,

Obviously the type of watch is important.

For a tool watch there's no question SS. For anything else, P merely because I don't own anything in that metal.
