Vulcain, 50s Presidents’ Chronograph

By: blomman Mr Blue : June 10th, 2014-10:32
Friends, As mentioned, last week I had the chance to see some of the offerings from Vulcain. Here is a closer look on the 50s Presidents Chronograph: From the looks, Vulcain is using the same case as for the Moonphase I was posting earlier. home.watc...

Without date and with a solid case back, it would be topissimo.

They really release some excellent products, at Vulcain, lastly... Best, Nicolas

I don't mind the date...

I think it is well balanced with the applied "12", but I agree on the case back. Yes, more to come. Best Blomman

That silver dial is fantastic.

I like the president cricket but this one is a real looker. Vulcain are a great value as well. Thanks for sharing these shots.

My pleasure, Ingemar!

Ingemar is a very typical Swedish name. You don't happen to be Swedish or have Swedish ancestors...? Best Blomman

Weelll.. The tic-tac was very nice to begin with.. The blonde backdrop is a special cherry

.. I like the appeal of this watch: very balanced, almost sober - but classic.. The one pusher Chrono is a nice ad-on feature; personally I don't mnd the date too much. Two Q's be allowed: 1/ Do you happen to know, if this carries an in-house movement ? 2...

Hej HS! :)

Yes, mono pusher is a very nice feature! :) Sorry, but I have no awnsers for you. This was the first time I meet one from Vulcain.... I didn't have the chance to ask .... Best Blomman

VERY handsome Vulcain

I like the looks of this watch very much. I've always admired two-dial chronos, and this one looks especially clean and modern. Those long hour markers are quite good-looking. I think the silver dial is preferable --- On the black dial version, that white...

Congrats to your new Vulcain, Ano!

Just to be clear, many would not agree with you about the Nautical being the "Poor mans" Polaris! The Vulcain came several years before the JLC and many of the design elements on the Polaris was "borrowed" from the Nautical. Like the 16 holes on the back....

Now where did I put my Kodak Instamatic? ;-)

Thank you, Blomman. Hmmmmm, I guess I'll have to read the instructions to learn how to post pictures at this site! Incidentally, when will you open your JLC museum? I've enjoyed your posts, pictures and wonderful JLC ads since joining PuristS. Ano Nuevo

Thank you for your kind words, Ano.

Well, hopefully one day I will do something with all my JLC stuff... Or I could do a joint venture JLC - GP! ;) Best Blomman

Can anyone shed any light on why there are SIX minute markers between every larger 5 minute marker?

Guys, I'm resurrecting an old thread here in the hope of getting an answer to something that has baffled me ever since I myself purchased one of these myself some years ago. I have two Vulcain's and love the fact they are well made, reasonably priced for ...

Keen observation, for which I haven't a clue as to the answer. What's even more curious . . .

. . . is the absence of any contemporary commentary. I'm positive Blomman noticed. Art

My guess: It’s easier and less error-prone to set the ALARM hand using visible 10-minute subdivisions, rather than 12-minute subdivisions.

Thus, the six increments between hour markers, instead of the traditional 5 increments. So you lose the ease of seeing minutes precisely, but gain alarm setting precision. Maybe???

Well could be - except this is one of their few models without an alarm function!

But thanks for the thoughts - much appreciated.
